A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Warm Bodies - Quirky, funny, not your typical zombie movie. Very enjoyable. 3.5/5

I Am Number Four - Good action movie with an unusual plot, *spoilers ahead* a bit slow in the middle while setting up the storyline and characters, then lots of action. Worth watching. I would happily watch a sequel to this first movie. Note: The movie is based on the first of a series of young adult novels. 3/5
I am waiting for Warm Bodies from Netflix, heard it was a fun movie!

I also saw I am Number Four, and then I read the YA novels. They weren't too bad.

I'm watching Shameless from Netflix now, what a hilarious series!

After Earth - OMG what a POS - Wait for this to hit public domain before even contemplating watching it or just get it over with and watch the trailer.
Director: M. Night Shyamalan. Any surprise it's a POS? Heard someone the other day talking about the movie and how anyone associated with it is not mentioning the director because of all the stinkers he's had and they are afraid of scaring off people.

BTW, I haven't seen it yet, but I filed it on my low expectation list.

Cloud Atlas - Good grief people. WTH was this even about? Reincarnation? A nuclear reactor? :donknow: Pick a genre and go with it. Facepalm Halle Berry is boring and Tom Hanks is one of the most arrogant overrated actors in Hollywood.

Thank God the last season of Fringe is up next in my que.

Dead Again (1991) - Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Robin Williams. Good to see again. Great premise but Kenneth Branagh admits not well directed. I was unaware the film screened 5 or 6 times and elicited laughs and poor audience response before its final cut. Certainly one of the more original screenplays in movie history.

A woman with amnesia (Thompson) has taken a few nights shelter at a convent where she awakes screaming night after night and bars her bedroom door. Enter a private detective (Branagh), a kooky former psychiatrist who lost his license (Williams), and a hypnotist who believes in past life regression.
I really liked this too! Was surprised that Robin Williams was in it....and Andy Garcia had some nice scenes with Emma! I believe Emma and Kenneth were married at the time the movie was made.

Until he cheated with that tramp Helena Bonham-Carter. But I'm not one to gossip so you didn't hear it from me. Nono2

Gangster Squad - From the trailers, I thought this movie was going to be a slick modern look at the gangster/police story. It had a look to is and a decent ensemble of actors. What the final result is? An non-gratifying gangster/police story that looks like something that would have been made in the 70s. Dialogue was crap. Characters weren't all that special. None were developed. Even the mobster played by Sean Penn fell flat. Thankfully I used a free Redbox code and didn't lose a penny on this crap.

Man of Steel

I went in with rather high expectations. I love the superman movies and the first few seasons of Smallville. I enjoyed Man of Steel quite a bit. There were quite a few emotional moments and a butt load of action. I have only two mail problems with it. Spoiler (kinda). At the end Lois knows that Clark is Superman, and Zod gets defeated hand to hand by superman. He's trained military and has all the powers of superman, but gets beat hand to hand? In the original he was outsmarted (reverse psychology that a 5 year old would not fall for...).

So it was generally very good and I will end up buying it when it comes out.

Well, now I feel less bad about not having gotten around to watching it yet. I'll take this as a sign that it's good background material.

Watched Marley & Me with the g/f the other night. I did not really want to but she said "trust me, you will like it".

Can't believe it, but I really did enjoy the movie, it was funny at times but the ending really got me. Very sad. Frown
