A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

I didn't think I was spoiling anything by saying it's like every other zombie movie out there... I mentioned things pretty much everyone expects.
Giving away the ending usually spoils things.

Fixed, and I will do my best in the future to show my manners and avoid offering my opinion.

Is this really a spoiler per se? Zombie movies have three distinct endings. 1. Cure found, there is hope after all. 2. No cure, life goes on but protagonists are not dead (Zombieland). 3. No cure, protagonists think they get away but not really (Dawn of the Dead).

At this point we pretty much know what's going to happen in these.

Well, the three possible endings suggest to me we don't know how a movie will end.

Just finalizing your examples, and I agree completely. Which is why I didn't think I gave away anything.

By your logic, we really know how every movie ends. 1. The Protagonist triumphs. 2. the Protagonist does not.

What about when he doesn't realize he triumphs?

Oldboy

I ruined it by watching the version dubbed in English. I thought about it turning it off after the first 5 minutes (the dubbed voices are horrible). Unfortunately, I stuck with it. It turned the movie into a comedy for me.

The "plot twist" for Dae-Su was painfully obvious throughout the whole movie though.

If you're going for the comic value, then okay.

Nono1 Only talking about zombie movies and logic still serves well in this case. Hollywood rarely deviates from its set patterns and I'm sure WWZ is no different.

I've read that by the end of shooting, Brad Pitt wanted nothing to do with the director and would not even take direction from him. He would show up, do the scene as he knew it, left. Also, they changed writers midway through to re-write the ending? Yikes, not a good omen.

They also sped up the zombies, big time. DH has been listening to the audiobook and wants to go see the movie. I'm not that fussed, especially after reading your post.
