One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Having not read the book, I thought the movie was alright. It was still fairly evident that they had to have chopped some stuff out in the character development.

Yeah, it's a kids' Thanksgiving movie. I didn't expect much - but even my 4 yo didn't laugh. It was very rushed, shitty animation - a lot like the crap you see on HBO/ made for TV shit. Ahh well at least the popcorn didn't suck.

The Prince and The Showgirl - Marilyn Monroe was never much of an actress but this was really good and funny. She should have had a wardrobe change though. The same dress is worn throughout the entire film and only slightly modified.

My Amityville Horror - Daniel Lutz, oldest child of the Lutz family, discusses what he remembers. I seem to be one of the few people that picked up on the fact that he and his siblings were possibly sexually abused and this was his way of coping with that and the violence of his stepfather as a child. Worth a look to see if you can spot some discrepancies in his story the filmmaker skipped over.

Man of Steel - So boring and uninspiring.

Passion - Rachel McAdams is one of the most unconvincing and least entertaining actresses on the planet. Lousy remake of a good thriller.

Pacific Rim - Awesome. Thumbup Sequel, please!!

Ender's Game - visually appealing movie but really more of a boot camp movie with human dynamics involved. This movie sort of reminded me of Searching for Bobby Fischer but with spaceships.

I really want to see Dallas Buyer's Club. The storyline is really interesting (as well as true) and the trailer looks really good. Haven't had time to check out 12 Years a Slave yet.

12 Years a Slave is based on a true story, where a free black man living in upstate New York was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the south. This was sadly quite common back in those days. The star of the movie Chiwetel Ejiofor is an excellent actor from the UK. I'll probably see this one in the theater too.
