A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Have you seen Absence of Malice or The Verdict? Those are 2 other Paul Newman movies you may like.
I have not, but I'll keep an eye out for them. Thanks very much for the recommendations! worship

Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas - Funnier and more enjoyable than I expected. A lot of "awww hell" and "you must be out yo damn mind" to shake a stick at though. The re-imagining of Christ's birth was very funny. But like most Tyler Perry movies, it is not so much about story as it is about telling about a small slice of the life that is Madea then a lot of gags and punchlines in between. Take it for what it is.

Gravity Cool visuals. Facebook goes out laugh out loud. Makes you wonder "Why would?"

I saw that his son Eathen was on PawnStars recently appraising his dads stuff.
Gravity was a total letdown. Great visuals, HORRIBLE story IMO. Won't get into it for spoilers. 1/10

Is it just me or are Comedy movies just awful? I can't remember a comedy movie I actually wanted to see... Much prefer TV comedy.

Currently, I decided to catch up on Paranomal Activity series:

Paranormal Activity 3 was mediocre, pretty boring and not really scary, had some strange moments that didn't belong in the movie. 4/10

Paranormal Activity 4 only half way through it and it is pretty creepy with the little kid. Better than 2nd and 3rd, behind the 1st (because it was orig). 7/10 so far.

Insidious: Chapter 2: Not that scary, quite interesting, like the series. 7/10.

Man of Steel - So boring and uninspiring.

Passion - Rachel McAdams is one of the most unconvincing and least entertaining actresses on the planet. Lousy remake of a good thriller.

Pacific Rim - Awesome. Thumbup Sequel, please!!

Man of Steel was pretty good I thought. Great visuals. Good story.

Pacific Rim was entertaining, but the story was SO CHEESY. "lets check if its heart is still beating....:::shoots phaser:::, guess not"

Whaaaa?
I WANTED so bad to love that movie. I tried through the whole thing. But it was basically like Special Effects Porn - ie, you should really fast forward through the boring parts to get the most out of it.

I saw The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug on Sunday. I enjoyed it, but it's continuing to take liberties regarding the source material.

The Hobbit pt. 2 - very different feeling from the books, but still enjoyable to watch
Part 2 went beyond taking liberties, they threw out much of what was in the book and added in a bunch of fight scenes to make it a hyped up action flick. I'm really disappointed with part 2, unlike how I felt about part 1. However, I will watch part 3 when it comes out.

You're one of those people who, if you've seen Pan's Labyrinth, had to Google what the film was really about. Am I right?

The Uninvited (1944) - It had Ray Milland but that's about it.

Not to mention that the dialogue was uber cheesy as well in places. But as far as special fx porn, that it was and looks great on Blu-ray! yummy

I have seen Pan's Labyrinth and actually managed to figure it out on my own. Though I hated the movie.

Of course we promised not to get into this in "public" but did you at least enjoy having
sex with me? Just once? Or did you simply go through the motions of that too? SIgh. Nono2
