A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

We're the Millers - HILARIOUS, wife and I really enjoyed this movie. Just our type of humor. Sudeikis is solid as usual though we both could have done without Aniston and the "son" in the movie was a bit too creepy. Otherwise, a solid choice for a comedy.

Silly me, I saw The Ninth Gate on Netflix instant watch and thought, hey Johnny Depp and Frank Langella, it's got to be decent. Facepalm

Should have checked this thread first. Between the weak story line, the bad dialogue, and some really bad acting, I give it a 1/5.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - Great in-betweener movie in this particular franchise. I never knew Kate from Lost could really act so well but was impressed. Orlando Bloom on the other hand just gives a bunch of mean stares the whole movie and could have mailed it in honestly. The visuals were wonderful considering the bleak, dark, grim look of the landscape in a lot of shots. The moral to the story is this: Try not to piss off the dragon. It never results to anything good.

American Hustle - Solid acting by both leads and both supporting actors. Excellent script, the movie entertains from beginning to end. Well worth the price of admission.

laugh out loud ok ok, I didn't say he wasn't a badass. Probably more so than in the LOTR trilogy. Kinda looked like they were smoothing out his face with post production touchups but a badass nonetheless.

Cool The Paramount in Seattle, which still has it's original theater organ, is showing The General on Monday, 2/10. They're doing a couple of other silent movies too. DH and I are hoping to go to one of them.

"Sleepless Night" - French gang / cop movie. 2/5

"This is the End" - It started off fun but got old fast. 2/5

"Observe and Report" - Not awful, not good. 2.5/5

"The Heat" - Pretty funny. 4/5

"Cherry Blossoms" - Interesting premise turned boring and weird. 2.5/5

"Suicide Circle" – Japanese, some gore, weird. 2.5/5

"The Star Chamber" - Michael Douglas as a judge - older movie 3/5

"The Internship" – It had a few funny parts. 2/5

"All Is Lost" – A guy gets stuck at sea in a sinking sailboat. OK, not great 2/5

"Suicide Club" – Weird Japanese film about kids who are compelled to off themselves. 2.5/5

"Fruitvale Station" – Not bad. I had no idea what it was about going into the movie. 2.5/5

"Gravity" – Really impressive effects 3/5

"Jobs" – Well shot and acted, but the subject matter wasn't there for me / I didn't care about any of the characters. 2/5

"Her" – Cute and quirky. 3.5/5

"12 Years a Slave" – Really good acting in this one. 3.5/5

"The Hunt" – Danish film about a middle aged man in a bad spot – not bad. 3/5

Here Comes the Boom

agree with IMDB. 3 of 5 stars.

Salma Hayek's rack is still a 5 of 5 stars.

I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It's wasn't the typical Ben Stiller comedy. 6/10

you saw at least three films nominated for best picture, and you give your top ranking to 'the heat'!?!? Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

not that i can argue with your own opinion, but maybe you should reevaluate how you pick your films! an average of three can be improved! Stick Out Tongue

personally, 'her' was my favorite.

No need to reevaluate. My ratings are for how much I enjoyed them.
