A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Darknet - 9/10

Only 6 episodes, half hour each but every episode is excellent. Several stories in each episode that have a link. Creepy, disturbing and really rattles you. Best horror I've seen in a while. On Netflix, go binge watch it.

Unbroken

8/10. Really good movie and the fact it's based on a true life story made it that much more suspenseful. Certain parts certainly dragged on and were a bit too long but great nonetheless.

Sin City (2014) - 3/5 A lot of nudity. laugh out loud The violence was up to par. I don't remember a thing from the first one but this one wasn't too bad and had some reminiscing scenes. I'm sadden that there wasn't more to JGL's role though. Frown

It Follows - A supernatural entity follows you wherever you go. Pretty creepy.

Terms and Conditions May Apply - Documentary about governments and corporations using your personal info and recording everything you say and do to keep a database on you and follow you wherever you go. Even creepier than It Follows.

The Admiral: Roaring Currents - Korean navy ships battling Japanese navy ships on the high seas in the 16th century. Very nice.

Black Sea - If you've seen one submarine movie, you've seen them all. Maybe, but it's still pretty good.

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Best movie of 2015.

Jupiter Ascending - From the people who brought you The Matrix? Needs more car chases or something.

Saw it yesterday. Had a costumes that resembled Chronicles of Riddick, Dune, and sets resembling both movies and a little The Fifth Element. Was a little offputting. Decent overall and could do with a sequel but cost too much for little returns on the investment so chalk this up as the 2015 version of John Carter.

Rise of Planet of the Apes - I think it was a real good movie. Liked the Ceaser character. James Francos acting kind of sucked ...it was very hollywood in regards to the Guns < Apes but other then that enjoyable.

Ex Machina - Such a great name for a movie.
Do androids dream of electric sheep? Watch to find out. Good stuff.

Mad Max: Fury Road - Needs more car chases or something.
Just kidding. The entire movie is a car chase. Though what it does need are characters I give a crap about. Yawn

Pound of Flesh - Jean-Claude Van Damme is a victim of the ol' "sleep with a hooker and wake up with one of your kidneys removed." Kind of a generic plot since who reading this hasn't had that happen at least once, amirite?

You can see the ending coming a mile away. Even so, it's still more interesting than Mad Max: Fury Road. And Van Damme does the splits while being dragged by a car. Maybe if Charlize Theron did the splits while being dragged by a car Mad Max would be slightly more interesting.

Not exactly a movie, a three part UK TV mini series ( just under three hours total), but it was so good I wanted to post it on this thread. It's free if you have Amazon Prime instant watch.

The Escape Artist (2013) - About a lawyer (a Junior Barrister in the UK) who is brilliant at getting people out of tight legal messes, even if they're clearly guilty. This finally comes back to haunt him in an unexpected way. Excellent cast and great acting by all involved, a couple of dumb moments on the plot, thus the half point deduction but still I thoroughly enjoyed it. 4.5/5

Jupiter Ascending - If you watch it on mute, it might be the best movie you've ever seen. Put the sound on, though, and it's like .5/5
American Sniper - Good movie, but very, very hard to watch. Normally I'm ok with graphic, but certain scenes were tough. It was also tough knowing that certain plot points were made up for the sake of "movie continuity." Not a deal breaker, but it did take you out of it at times.

6/5 stars. That's right, six out of five stars. Mind bogglingly awesome.
