A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Time for a time-travel-athon!
Or for some of them, depending on your point of view, maybe it's a Purgatory-athon! (spoiler!?)

Time Lapse - Some friends find a machine that prints out photographs of the future. Enjoyable for the most part.

Project Almanac - Teenagers create a time machine. Decent.

Triangle - Your typical day on a sailboat... hit some bad weather, wind up on a giant ship from the 1930s. I had forgotten how good this movie is. It's great once it gets going. Though the slow stuff is there for a reason.

TimeCrimes - Kind of like Triangle, but not as dramatic and set more at a private lab. Triangle's main idea is kind of a ripoff of this, but they're both good in their own way.

Salvage - Kind of sort of like Triangle, but set more in a basement.

Mine Crimes - Kind of sort of like Triangle, but set more in an abandoned mine, and the people are dumber.

Just watched Project Almanac last night. Watchable, but so many time blunders that it made it very difficult to enjoy. That, and I very much dislike "found footage" films means I will very likely never watch it again.

This is the end

This movie is hilarious! Gotta say one of my favorites no doubt.
Agreed! For some reason I had put off watching it when it first came out on DVD, but watched it quite awhile back and a few more times since...hysterical Smilie I haven't watched any new movies lately to report. Thinking about seeing Trainwreck, but I dunno about that Shumer, she kinda irks me lol.

Jurassic World: 6/10
a by-the-book summer blockbuster, but nothing more. gave up a lot of the original's heart and suspense for more impressive visuals and a sprawling scope. both leads are caricatures without any depth or any reason for us to care about them, and only one has any sort of growth/change. you can tell Spielberg stayed at a distance on this one, which is a shame.

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel - The movie had a sort of Cornetto Trilogy [wikipedia.org] flavor about it, funny, over the top and a bit nerdy. Really enjoyed it but then I like most of what Chris O'Dowd does. 4/5

Ant Man - Surprisingly entertaining and humorous considering it involves ants. It does not take itself as serious as some of the more recent Marvel movies but that's a good thing. Has a lot of tie-ins to future Marvel stuff so stay for an eztra scene after the first portion of the credits and at the very end there is a second that ties into the .

I was wondering the same thing on both posts! I was thinking Home might be stinky. I forgot I watched The Skeleton Twins on Redbox DVD with Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, black comedy, I enjoyed it. Luke Wilson (Enlightened - so underrated) and Ty Burell (Modern Family) never seem to fail me.

Just watched Last Knights. Never thought I'd give a movie with Morgan Freeman in it a bad rating but it is just bad. Its Keanus 47 Ronin only worse. Lol.

I started watching this movie and after 5 minutes couldn't go on anymore. It was just so slow.
