A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

my guy and I watched "Triangle" the other night, and overall I thought it was pretty great. but I won't lie, for the majority of the movie I felt like a very confused hamster on a wheel, going 'round and 'round, knowing how to get off the wheel but unable to actually stop laugh out loud

Spy - 4/5 - this movie, although I liked the Heat more, it was hysterical. The fighting scenes and stuff were typical action scenes but the dialogue was funny. I haven't laughed out loud in so many scenes in forever.

Ted 2 - 2/5 - Didn't really care for it.

Ant Man - 3.5/5 - It was good, but I thought that the beginning was a bit slow. I guess I also missed the last scene of the movie because we came out before the credits ended. I definitely see a sequel coming and would go watch it.

This is probably one of the most complex movie ever made. You can google it and see many interpretations people have come up with.

I'm bored at work, so I may actually do that just to see what everyone else has to say about it.

I presume you saw the first additional credit scene at the end, so the second one involved a scene where.... Then there is a scene that says Ant Man is coming back soon so I think Marvel has him slated for Avenger movies as well as cameos in other Marvel movies [denofgeek.us] but I think this is the only solo movie he will have and definitely with Paul Rudd as the character.

Yes, I saw the first one, thanks for the followup. It will be interesting to see him in other Marvel flicks. With what he did, I guess I can see how and why he'd be useful in tight situations. laugh out loud

In the comics, Hank Pym was Ant Man and one of the original Avengers and Lang does become Ant Man similar to how it is in the movie. I guess they're just going to skip that part and focus on Lang exclusively.

Pixels - This is actually a fun idea for a story. However, a fun idea and making it fun and keeping it fun in a theatre are two different things. From storyboard to the final product they failed somewhere in the middle. Typical Sandler fare over the past 5-6 movies with jokes just falling flat left and right and a lot of scenes where something funny should happen, in the background or foreground, just doesn't happen so you're left with that void feeling. Josh Gaad was eerily funny in spells but Q-Bert and the presence of Serena Williams (not her acting, just her presence) is the only thing you have going for you in a movie, then yeah you've got a bad movie.

A Royal Affair - About the miserable marriage of British Princess Caroline to mad King Christian VII of Denmark. The kings new physician turns out to be an idealistic man of the Enlightenment, a dangerous thing to be in an oppressive backwards country, which Denmark was at that time. A bit of a slow start but a really good and interesting movie. (subtitled) 4/5

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - Pretty easy plot to follow and great locales. A little disappointed by the "Nation" part of it but all in all was an enjoyable movie.
