A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

first time watch? what did you think?

I watched Chappie yesterday with my 18 yo son. It was a struggle at first, but we rallied through. Ridiculous, we both lost interest at many points. AI goes on to save his Mom.

Mad Max Fury Road - 4/5 - I didn't know what to think of the movie when I saw the preview, didn't really care for the trailer but decided to watch it based on reviews and recommendations. It was pretty good, I liked the action and battle scenes. I haven't seen the prequels but was told I didn't need to.

Quiz show - released in 1994. About the rigging of game shows in the 1950s. I was surprised that it kept me entertained for almost 2hrs. John Turturro was the scene stealer. One of Robert Redford's best films. 4.5/5

Fantastic Four - Went to see it today and honestly what was Fox thinking? This reboot is darker than the previous rendition 10 years ago and it did not help. Acting, vfx, dialogue are not much of an improvement on the first and that's saying a lot since most want to wipe their memory of it, much like Daredevil. Hopefully this is the bomb from Fox we need so they sell their rights back to Marvel to use from there on out.

There must be something wrong with us (me and my husband). Everyone we know LOVED Inside Out. My husband and I got 20 minutes into it and were bored beyond words. There are tons of kids movies we love but this was like watching paint dry.

I think, and this may be a lot of speculation but more than likely scattered with a lot of truth, may explain why it was so bad.

In any case, it still doesn't make up for piss poor dialogue and bad acting.

I haven't seen it yet, but I think I heard the beginning was slow. Did you stick it out? They were comparing it to UP for some reason. Anyone else watch Inside Out yet?

we watched MI: Rogue Nation this weekend, and we really enjoyed the movie. I think MI is one of those series that they can keep making movies (as long as Cruisey can handle it) and they will keep being fun to watch and enjoyable.

Evidently work has already begun on the next one.
I wonder if I'll ever see any of them...

why is Cruise a necessity? I think the series would be just fine after Mr Ethan Hunt retires. The Transporter just replaced Statham with Skrein. how many different Bonds have their been? 6 different ones over 20-some films? MI could go on just fine without Cruise.

I took my son to see it when it first came out. For some reason he REALLY wanted to see that one. We thought it was great! I dont think it started slow at all. I didnt like it as much as Up, but I would put it in the list of movies to watch a billion times with the kids.

Not sure about the others, but I wouldn't bother with a different Transporter actor. They were meant to be bad, over the top movies and Statham made them fun to watch. Truly mindless fun. I'm sure that a comparison could be made with bond during the Roger Moore years, but I think it's different somehow.
