MeshCore is WAY better than Meshtastic. Meshtastic doesn't work with a mesh with a hundred of devices. With MeshCore, messages go from Vancouver, BC, to Bellingham, Lynnwood, Seattle, Olymipa, the other Vancouver, WA, to Portland, Salem, Eugene, all the way to Medford, OR. That is from BC, Northern Washington, to Southern Oregon.
From Seattle, there is now a link over 3 mountain top MeshCore repeaters over the Rocky Mountains to Central Washington to Wenatchee!
If building a mesh network that you can message to your friends and families across state lines interests you, MeshCore is it.

I just picked up a couple of repeater kits for ~$25 each (one w/o GNSS, one with) for a personal project using meshtastic, so I'm curious what advantages this offers. (There is maybe one mesh core or meshtastic node within 100 miles of me, so a dense network isn't an issue, and I'm only looking to track a single item within a small, potentially uninhabited area).

However, Meshtastic has its place where there is no repeater infrastructure, like on cruise ships where having client nodes that can relay messages across the mesh is beneficial. These can be flashed easily between the two. Battery life is great!

I have done both on a cruise ship and when I camped. MeshCore's Android and iOS apps have identical user interface and features. It is easy to use understand and use, unlike the convoluted and overly complicated user interface on Meshtastic. Meshtastic's phone apps on Android and iOS are completely different, they make it much harder to use if you have both Android and iOS phones in your party.

EDIT: found out someone in Brazil had created an Aliexpress account on an old email account that was hacked. Secured that email account and took control of the Aliexpress account connected to it. Use the code again and price was $30... I wonder if Brazil gets a lower price even if shipping to a US address?
EDIT2: looks like these can be flashed between Meshtastic and Meshcore.
