You couldn't pay me the price of this tablet to use said tablet (an Onn tablet with 4 gigs of RAM from 2024) for even two hours
These are actually quite reasonable tablets, if you keep your expectations in check. I own two of these exact units, each with a third-party "Fintie" case. My total cost of ownership per setup was roughly $60 (tablet + case), not counting tax or power, since I have long used USB-C everywhere for everything.
The bad: they have a meager 4gb of ram, a very below average processor, and a pithy 64gb of storage.
The good: They're dirt cheap. They allow microSD cards for storage expansion, a feature that every APPLE mobile device refuses to implement. Relatively low power usage, which results in decent battery life. Virtually NO bundled junkware, unlike most carrier-locked phones.
I absolutely do NOT want to use them as a daily use device. They're sluggish...at best. But where they excel is for passive monitoring -- things like a chat room, messaging client, security camera feed, livestream viewing. Something to passively keep an eye on while you go about your work on another, more capable device (laptop, desktop, etc).
Yes, you can use a budget phone for this (even if it's just in Wifi mode, not cellular provisioned) -- similar cost for cheap android phones, and it would double being capable as a telephone (which this tablet can't do, obviously). But phone screens are small, and not all of us have great eyesight.
It would also make for a great beater tablet for less than ideal usage situations: give it to a kid (not that I condone that form of pacification), travel use, etc. If it gets lost/damaged/stolen -- not the end of the world.
