Philippine Airlines is drawing attention for unusually strong fares from U.S. gateways, especially Atlanta and Orlando, with business class pricing called competitive and one way bookings available. The appeal is smoother connections through Manila, including through checked bags on partner itineraries, and some trips have included better food, English speaking staff, and even rebooking help after delays. The main cautions are slow Manila check in, extra charges for seat selection or name changes, and reports of old planes, broken infotainment, and uneven customer service. A solid option if the fare and routing fit your trip.

Common Questions (5)

  • Business class from ATL is described as a very strong deal at about $2,100, and the pricing is competitive versus many airlines. It is the clearer value here than economy, which is called less competitive.

  • The onboard experience can be better than a budget carrier, with better food and even lay-flat-style sleeping space on some flights. The tradeoff is that MNL can be disorganized and some aircraft have broken infotainment systems.

  • Yes. One-way bookings are available, including routes like NYC-MNL and ICN-NYC, so you do not have to buy a round trip if you only need one direction.

  • Seat selection is included only for seats toward the rear of the plane on these economy fares. Closer sections and aisle seats can cost extra, and refund or change fees are the main other difference between fare tiers.

  • Yes, connecting itineraries can allow luggage to be checked through to MNL without transferring bags between terminals. That makes connections smoother, especially on partner-airline itineraries.

Still too damn expensive. Seeing 1300 out of Los Angeles. Anyone seeing better prices?
The Business class pricing is competitive compared to many airlines, economy class less so.

Flew them once, would never fly them again. I don't care how cheap they are.
What issues did you encounter..? I've flown Philippine Air approximately 9 times with no issues.

Comparing Economy Supersaver, Economy Saver and Economy Value, looks like the only difference that I see that matter is the percentage of earned miles (10%, 50% and 75% respectively). Now question for the travel savvy, for someone like me to does not travel much on PAL, is it worth the upgrade to Economy saver and Economy value with higher price ? or just avail of the cheapest Economy supersaver?

I believe the only other difference would be refund/change fee. Seating is the same - the seat selection included is for the seats towards the rear of the plane. Closer sections and aisle seats require an additional charge. This is my experience from LAX to MNL.

I flew them on that price error sale back in April. Food was tier above the budget carrier Xiamen I used to return. They gave me 3 seats to lay down on the red eye flight to MNL from SFO on a packed flight. Flight was delayed and I missed my connection but they got me on another flight at MNL. A little disorganized in MNL but they do speak English and aren't rude.

Because everyone is questioning this: my personal experience was that I got bumped out of business class. Never again.
