Just bought this and have it on hand. The best benefit of this laptop is it's weight at 999g. On par with zenbook 14.
Processor is a little lackluster along with ram but for a student use I think this is more than enough.
226v with 130v arc graphics can run most games in decent FPS. Obviously not high settings but playable.
If playing minecraft, LOL, rocket league... should be more than enough.

You're comparing a 14" lightweight (~2lbs) laptop to a 5lb+ 16" laptop. If you don't care about the difference in size and weight, then go ahead and get the HP.

That is through an EPP program (Perks at Work I believe). You can get the same $20 discount on the normal Lenovo site by signing up for an email coupon. The advantage of going through the normal site is that you can combine with a ca$h bakc portel.

How is the fan on this? Mostly quiet or 'has to be a jet engine just to use the browser'

HDMI tops out at 100 Hz on my ultra wide at 3440x1440
