But that would like, force them to allow the customer to own the game and be slightly more expensive and difficult to engineer. Slightly.
Oh, and it's Square Enix, so that won't happen. As it is, they're screwing over their loyal Dragon Quest fans by not allowing the Switch 1 version of DQ I and II to upgrade to the Switch 2 version digitally.

As for PC, it depends. The game runs better than the Switch 2 on my RTX 5060 laptop and Steam Machine. The Switch 2 version looks way better than Steam Deck though.
If you already have a Switch 2, there's a free demo you can test on the Nintendo eshop.
But that would like, force them to allow the customer to own the game and be slightly more expensive and difficult to engineer. Slightly.
Oh, and it's Square Enix, so that won't happen. As it is, they're screwing over their loyal Dragon Quest fans by not allowing the Switch 1 version of DQ I and II to upgrade to the Switch 2 version digitally.
Though I'd argue that secondary cartridges that just held data (which could be pulled from the cartridge to internal storage) could probably be slower Switch 1 cartridges, but I'm not a Switch game developer so I couldn't speak to the specific tradeoffs needed to make it work.
My primary point was that a lot of publishers aren't really trying to properly support physical ownership in earnest even though they could.
