Devices purchased prior to 7/1/2026 must have been active for at least six months of paid service

Cricket's in store iPhone 16e promo is mainly a cheap way to get a locked 128GB iPhone and a month of service, with some buyers using it as a fast path to Apple trade in credit. The phone has solid battery life, a decent camera with AI cleanup, and the Cricket network is described as AT&T like. The main catches are the carrier eligibility list, the 12 month unlock requirement, and eSIM only activation that can complicate swaps. Taxes, fees, and store add ons often push the out the door price well above the advertised amount.
Common Questions (5)
The advertised in-store price is $114.99 for the phone plus 1 month of Supreme Unlimited, but real totals reported range from about $167 to $182 after activation, taxes, and optional insurance. Some stores also quote much higher totals by adding accessories or taxing the full phone price.
Tello, Straight Talk, RedPocket, and MobileX are treated differently in the carrier list and store checks. Tello is listed as ineligible in some comments, Straight Talk is reported as eligible, RedPocket is shown on the eligible-carrier list and also reported working, and MobileX is reported as not qualifying for the promo price.
Yes, a Cricket-locked phone can be traded in at Apple as long as it is fully paid off and not blacklisted; carrier lock is different from Activation Lock. Several comments report successful Apple trade-ins, including locked 16e units used for gift cards or toward an unlocked 17e.
Yes, the line can be ported out immediately after activation in some cases, including via eSIM and online chat support. One workaround is to activate on a new Cricket line, then port or swap service afterward, but Cricket may still treat the phone as tied to the account in some cases.
The phone can be restricted to Cricket until 6 months of service are completed, but unlocking is reported to require 12 months of service. A separate policy note says devices bought on or after 7/1/2026 need 365 days of paid service, while earlier purchases need at least six months of paid service.
