This bundle is a strong budget AM4 starter kit, with the included 16GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB NVMe SSD doing a lot of the value work. The B450M AC board includes WiFi and has a solid track record in AM4 builds, including Ryzen 5600X and 5700X3D systems running without issues. The main limits are the older B450 chipset, PCIe 3.0 only, and the modest 16GB and 512GB capacities. It fits best as the base for a lower cost desktop, especially with a Ryzen 5500 and a used GPU.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes, it can still run modern AM4 chips well, including a 5700X3D and 5600X, with reports of stable operation. The main limitation is that B450 is an older PCIe 3.0 platform, which matters less for many budget CPUs and GPUs.

  • Yes. The bundle is a solid base for a low-cost AM4 build, and commenters suggest pairing it with a Ryzen 5 5500 or similar CPU plus a used GPU to stay around $600 or less.

  • Yes. The B450M/AC model includes Wi‑Fi, which is part of the board's name and makes it a better fit for a budget build without a separate wireless card.

  • You need a Ryzen G-series CPU for onboard graphics; otherwise a discrete GPU is required. A non-G Ryzen CPU will not provide video output on its own.

  • The RAM alone is viewed as very valuable, and the bundle price is considered strong because 16GB DDR4-3200 and a 512GB NVMe SSD would cost a meaningful chunk on their own. The SSD is a DRAM-less PCIe 3.0 drive with TLC NAND, which is fine for a budget build.

The ram alone is worth $200 holy moly
No, it's not. This is the older AM4 MB with DDR4 ram. While it too has increased in price, mostly because of DD5s increases, it's not nearly as expensive. You can get 2x 8gb DDR4 for under $100 pretty regularly, though more often just over $100.

Also, anyone paying attention to HDD prices these days? I knew the SSD prices were cracked, but didn't realize the HDDs had all but doubled in price again since they first doubled in price around the beginning of the year. So around 3-4x as much for a hard drive now vs last year...?!? Why don't we just all agree not to use the idiot AI assists anymore. We really only need so many vids of animals and babies doing crazy things.

Good deal. As mentioned above $200 is about the price of 2x 8gb sticks of DDR5 RAM, not DDR4.

Value is solid though...
2x8GB sticks of DDR4-3200 run about $60-$70 used on eBay but new they're $100+.
And pretty much the same price range for the SSD. Maybe a touch lower.
A basic AM4 motherboard with built-in wifi runs around $90 new.

The SSD is DRAM-less and Gen3 but it does use TLC NAND which is better than QLC NAND.
Yes, the motherboard's B450 chipset is old but comparing to the newer (and still old haha) B550, for a lot of builds it makes almost no difference. B550 supports PCIe 4.0 but if going for a budget CPU there's a good chance the CPU will limit you to PCIe 3.0 anyway, even on B550.

And on top of that, for many graphics cards, performance at PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0 is essentially the same. This varies widely between GPUs. With some cards, moreso the mid-range and lower-end later gen cards, being limited to fewer PCIe lanes means they'll be bottlenecked by PCIe 3.0's slower lanes. But for many popular used cards, it makes no difference since they can use all 16 lanes and can't saturate the connection even at PCIe 3.0's slower speed per lane.

The same 64gb DDR4 kit I bought in 2023 for $145 is $624 today.

It's true, the datacenters aren't using DDR4, but the price pressure spreads through the market. DDR5 gets unaffordable? People look to DDR4, and its price goes up. Even DDR3 has gone up, though that I haven't kept track of.
It's wild. I bought a 2x 32gb DDR4-3600 kit on eBay in May 2025 for $74+tax. That kit (cmk64gx4m2d3600c18) has been selling recently for over $300.

Haven't built a pc in a while. How old are these components?
They're from a bit before the COVID lockdowns.

I still rock an AM4 CPU (5900X) with 32GB DDR4 RAM and everything performs quite well. Granted, mine is paired with an RTX 3090. Given that this is only 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD, I'd personally probably skimp on the CPU (maybe Ryzen 5 5500 for $100) and GPU (maybe Intel Arc B570 or B580 for $200-250) unless I had more RAM and SSD available to justify higher performance components.

More important is that the B450 chipset only supports PCI-E 3.0, so it pairs well with the 5500
