This X25 Special Edition Xbox controller is drawing attention as a limited edition pad with a Halo like look, clear top plate styling, and the familiar Xbox advantage of user replaceable AA batteries. The design gets praise for its shelf appeal and for nods to the original black and white buttons, while the battery setup is seen as more practical than built in packs. The biggest knock is the lack of haptics, and the standard potentiometer sticks raise stick drift concerns. That makes it feel more like a collectible with practical battery convenience than a feature packed upgrade.
Common Questions (4)
The controller uses standard potentiometer-based sticks, so drift remains a concern for buyers who have had Xbox controllers fail after months or about a year. Some plan to replace the sticks with TMR parts to improve longevity.
It does not have haptics, and Hall effect/TMR sticks are not included. The practical tradeoff is that buyers looking for drift resistance or advanced feedback may prefer alternatives or plan a stick swap.
Yes, it uses user-replaceable AA batteries instead of a built-in rechargeable pack. That makes it easy to swap in fresh cells or rechargeable AAs and keep playing without waiting to charge.
It is a limited-edition controller, but the expectation is that it may take years to appreciate and may not rise dramatically in value. The appeal is more as a shelf piece or fan display item than a guaranteed investment.

After decades of being an Xbox player, I finally called it quits last year for this exact reason! PS5's controller is a million times better in every way, and hasn't had 1 controller brake/have any issues!
Microsoft should be sued with a class action lawsuit due to them knowing this known issue and refuse to do anything to improve the problem.
