What's the purpose of this, if amazon wants to donate then go ahead and donate, why getting Alexa involved?

It creates awareness for Water.org, their mission, and other ways to get involved/donate?

Forces you to use Alexa and know what a *good and noble company* Amazon is.
you're right that they will probably donate the same amount of money regardless of participation though

It's called virtue-signaling. And it gives them an excuse to launder more tax free money through their non-profit.

All NGO's and non-profits work this way.

Wait til you find out where the money you donate to the Shriner's to get that free blanket to 'show the world how much you care' goes to. (look it up)

It reminds me of red cross work in Haiti with the donation they received to help "rebuild" Haiti
