I bought this last time, and it's great. But eventually returned and purchased the OWC dock for my Mac due to dual display issues

Bummer it only has one thunderbolt port to actually connect peripherals to.

Also 170w input (20v8.5a) for 85w out?!

I have a TB4 dock that has an 85w effective charging rate and it came with a 20v 5.5a adapter, and offers 15w charging shared across USB ports for phones and whatever. That suggests the electrical overhead to power one of these things is not that much, certainly not the better part of 100 watts lol.

I still ordered this for my mac m4 mini. It will be a glorified usb hub. I don't need the ethernet and I already have my 3 monitors run off the mini directly, 2xTB 1xHDMI. It'll just look better on my desk than my goofy powered hub, and i'm hoping the front ports at least charge at the same rate as the powered hub. The 170w adapter surely will have the capacity for doing that...

Oh well thanks for causing me to make a stupid purchase, as is tradition

Oh yeah forgot to mention: this is a somewhat rate tb dock configuration with the host port on the back, which lends itself well to sitting on a desk and serving a desktop setup. Most docks are geared towards laptops and put the host port on the front, which is annoying as hell even if you use a laptop on a stand beside your monitors. Who wants a thick thunderbolt cable snaking across their desk to their machine?

Only thing that would have made this better as a permanent desk feature is audio jack on the rear. Had to under-desk mount my mini just to avoid having an audio cable always sticking out of the front to run to my speakers. People who buy wired headphones in 2026 that would benefit from a front audio out jack probably have nice headphones with a headphone amplifier so it doesn't benefit them either. I know this is an older dock but that front audio trend never went away, it's the layout used by most modern docks.. and it drives me mad. Tidy desks be damned, apparently.

It looks like w/ a Mac, it'll only output to 1 monitor at a time...it works fine with Windows however. In for 3 for work.

This isn't true. I have this outputting 2x 4k streams with my Mac. Zero additional work or firmware updates required.

I purchased two 144 Hz refresh rate displays and this only gave me 1 display at 120 Hz and the second one limited to 65 Hz

Lid open or closed?

This is a limitation of M series chips that only m4 or m5 have fixed.

How does this compare to the CalDigit TS3+? I currently have the TS3+ and had a USB port on the back go bad after about 2 years. Contacted their customer support and had a replacement sent to me (after having to send them back the broken one first). I am now starting to have the same issue in about the same amount of time.
