I think the premium also adds the piece that lets you slide open the lid (instead of taking it off and hanging it).
Also, heat protection handles on the damper opening (?)
The lid on the premium also has a thermometer.
I think it is worth the extra and would wait on a deal for that one.
This 22 inch Weber kettle is praised as a durable, versatile charcoal grill that delivers even heat and strong flavor for everything from steaks and burgers to brisket and pork butt. The One Touch cleaning system and tool hook handle are useful upgrades, and the green special edition adds some extra style. The main drawback is the ash setup, since this version uses an open tray rather than the enclosed ash bucket found on Premium models, and the built in thermometer is missing. It still looks like a solid kettle if you value Weber longevity and simple charcoal cooking.
Charcoal cooks who want a durable backyard grill, because it holds up for years outdoors with little rust and no major parts replacement.
Steak and burger cooks who like simple heat management, because it heats evenly, reaches about 450°F by design, and can sear well with coals banked to one side.
Grillers who want an easy upgrade path for temperature monitoring and fuel control, because a thermometer can be added and the grate can be swapped for a better one.
Buyers who want an enclosed ash bucket and cleaner ash handling, because this model dumps ash into an open tray that can leave hot coals blowing around.
Shoppers expecting the premium One-Touch feature set, because this version lacks the ash catcher, lid thermometer, and other upgrades found on higher trims.
People who need precise built-in temperature readings, because the lid thermometer is absent or inaccurate enough that an external thermometer is preferred.
Grillers who want a larger, more feature-rich kettle without modifications, because this model has a basic grate and fewer accessories than upgraded versions.
It includes the One-Touch cleaning system, but this version dumps ash into an open tray between the legs rather than an enclosed ash bucket. The ash catcher/bucket is a separate upgrade on higher trims like the Premium/Master Touch, and some commenters prefer those models for cleaner ash handling.
Yes; multiple owners report these kettles lasting 15-20 years or more with minimal rust and no major repairs, even when left outdoors. They also cook evenly, stay around 450°F by design unless you push them hotter, and handle steaks, burgers, chicken, brisket, and pork butt well.
This model is the simpler Original Kettle: it has the One-Touch cleaner, but not the ash bucket, lid thermometer, or lid holder found on Premium/Master Touch versions. The Premium/Master Touch trims add those convenience features, plus other upgrades like a better grate and more accessories.
Yes. A thermometer can be added by using the top vent rivet hole or drilling a small hole in the lid, and the ash collector can be added by popping it into the leg sockets. The ash collector part is about $60-$70, so buying a used kettle with one already installed can be cheaper.
If you qualify, the Military exchange can lower the price and also provide free shipping and no tax. One buyer reported paying $89.10 that way, and another found a floor model for $50 after negotiation.
How important is it to have a built in thermometer? Want one but was hoping to have that feature
It's mostly a gimmick/value add for aesthetics.
Just something to look at while you get going.
They always break or aren't accurate enough.
If you actually need to know your grill temp, a properly calibrated laser thermometer will get you better accuracy. Just throw an upside down cast iron pan on as soon as you get lit and it will give you a good idea.
That's a cool color. If not for the fact that my 20 year old black Weber kettle is still going strong, I'd snag one of these. I don't mind the simple ash catcher. The only thing I've replaced has been the One-Touch cleaning thing on the bottom of the kettle. Steaks, burgers, chicken, brisket, pork butt, green chiles, this does them all well.
The ash catcher on the Premium Kettle makes a big difference. I would rather find a used one off FB Marketplace for $50-$75 vs getting this one without the ash catcher

Picked one of these up on the last sale. This thing is a steal for 100 bucks. I thought I'd be missing the ash catcher of the higher priced-models, but it's really not an issue and doesn't make a mess if you use high quality briquettes like the B&B competition charcoal.
One accessory I would def. recommend for this grill is a Vortex. That thing turns the grill into a chicken making machine, best thighs and smoked wings I've ever made.
The other thing I recommend is maybe a wireless thermometer. There's a thermomaven one right now on sale for $40 that has 2 probes. They work great. You could also add a thermometer to the lid by drilling a small hole. This lets you place the thermometer in a place that is actually useful, since the Weber installed thermometers are at the top of the lid, which is not always accurate to where the meat is sitting on the grate.
Which brings me to the grate. The one that comes with this grill is not the best and the gauge of the steel is pretty thin. I bought a Weber "gourmet bbq" grate with the removable center (great for the Vortex) and the hinged sides to be able to easily add more fuel to a cook. This is not really needed but a good upgrade nonetheless.

you're right, I'm a dingbat. It does say with one touch cleaning system, however.
Yes, but it's my mistake. Both grills have the "One-Touch" cleaning system. However, you don't want this one because when you operate the cleaning handle, it just dumps the ash onto the open tray that sits between the legs. There, the hot coals just sit and blow around until you physically remove the tray after it cools down. I believe the newer system is called the "master Touch" or "Premium" model. It has the ash bucket and adjustable air intake. Apparently, the posted model has been discontinued by Weber. Home Depot must have a warehouse full of these that they need to dump. HD needs to stop selling this model.
"Original Kettle 22 in. Charcoal Grill American Flag in Green with One-Touch Cleaning System"
This does have the one-touch cleaning system. The photos also have the hook hanger handle which does not come on the regular kettle original so it appears to be a slight upgrade..
Yes, you are correct, my mistake. But there's a huge difference between the different "One-Touch" models. The one in the OP has an open tray where the ashes fall into. The hot ashes then sit there and blow around until the unit cools enough to remove the tray. This is, at best, a huge inconvenience, and at worst, a fire hazard. The newer model has an enclosed, removable ash bucket with an adjustable air vent. Weber has discontinued this model in favor of this one: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Weber...-n/a-_-n/a
They call the newer one the "master Touch" or premium model.

I just picked up the floor model at the home Depot on Thomas road in Phoenix for $50 after some negotiation. If it says low inventory online they might just have floor model left.

Yeah, no. They are all different and weber's website has them detailed pretty clearly.:
Jumbo Joe Premium - 22" version with shallow bowl and no upgrades. Don't recommend when the original kettle can be found for same cost.
Original kettle: Current versions include the ash sweeper but not an ash catcher. The idea is to clean the bowl after it has cooled / before the next cook so you aren't sweeping hot coals / ash out. NOT discontinued. The special edition green is not on clearance - it's a part time special buy (the green one also adds the tool hook handle which the original / black model does not). Ash catcher can be added but is not included.
Original kettle premium: Adds ash catcher, tool hook handle, and temp gauge. Came out after the Master Touch as an in-betweener.
Master touch: additional upgrades like premium grate, more colors, tuck-away lid holder, warming rack, nicer wheels. Not really newer, just an upgrade / higher cost.
There are other limited time versions like the American flag version. However that one has a basic lower vent similar to the top vent and does not have an ash sweeper.

Just buy a Hibachi For $30.00. These things will rust out after one season & end up behind thr shed or at the curb.
Back in 2000 Weber came out with a Simpsons 10th anniversary model kettle grill. That winter I found it on Amazon clearance for $50 and it included a Smokey Joe in the same color. Homer's been outside in the midwestern winners ever since and still going strong. I actually bought two and have one unopened in my attic.
