Imo this is a terrible design. Putting a source of heat and energy directly underneath the exhaust of your hot laptop.

1) this is how laptop docks were designed for about 20 years
2) The fans are NOT in the back/bottom of most laptops, but in the middle.
2.1) This isn't blocking anything and actually provides more of a space under the laptop for more airflow vs the tiny little feet which only raise it a few mm's.

Depends on where the heat generates. Usually CPU/GPU are south of the overlap.

A good deal. Too bad Woot is simping for AgeID Verification, instead of fighting in court.

One Amazon reviewer noted that it uses a SiliconMotion display chip for some of the displays (probably the VGA and 4K 30Hz HDMI). This compresses video with software to get it over the USB data connection.

It is painful that we now have rivals there, instead of companies just using DP Alt Mode.

Despite both having FOSS drivers, neither works well with Wayland, effectively relegating them to Android and XLibre.

1) being done in the past =\= done well.

2) it is directly in the line of sight of the exhaust of most if not all modern laptops. Hot air comes out of the bottom or rear.

Take the heat source away from the laptop. There are oodles of better designs than this readily available.

let's say I have a hypothetical laptop that blows the hot air straight out of the top and no where near it. still terrible design to put hot thing against hot thing.

bad in every way. buy something else 👍

Agree here. It's blocking air intake from the bottom. Insane design choice. Probably why it's almost 70% off.

1) It was the industry standard when a "dock" was a "dock" but was highly OEM dependent. Now everything is moving to hubs because of USB C's universal adoption (thank you EU), not because old school docks caused heat issues...which BTW there should be plenty of evidence of if your claim even had a tiny bit of credence. LOL. Also, most old school docks did exactly the same thing this is trying to do, they elevated the rear of the laptop slightly for extra airflow...crazy concept, eh? More airflow = more heat dissipation. Not exactly a controversial statement.

BTW, correlation =\= causation.

2) "Line of sight?" LMAO2 I don't think down firing or bottom intake fans care about something 90 degrees to them within their "sight" but they should enjoy far more airflow of NOT being directly in top of something like a desk which is going to absurd and reflect heat back at them. That extra space allows far more airflow...does it not?

And isn't "hot thing against hot thing." That rear of the laptop does not have a CPU, battery, ram, GPU, etc there. That is mostly just the hinge. I doubt your mobo even goes that far. Thus why the fans aren't there. Funny how that works. They are in the middle of the laptop with all the HoT ThInGs.

"bad in every way. buy something else 👍"

Just because you say something, doesn't make it true. 👍

P.S. Nothing is stopping you from NOT placing your laptop not on top of this. You can place your laptop on the desk if it helps you sleep at night. No HoT ThInG AgAiNsT HoT ThInG.

No command to use it as a laptop stand. A longer wire between the laptop and dock resolves it. So far, only video compression is a problem, as noted in the comment

Great deal! I need something like this. I was going to go cheap, but this is a cheap price for a tried and true brand. Thanks!

So this still needs an extra charger to provide the PD functionality. Something to consider when evaluating the total cost of this thing.

this guy gets it, its not a dock that snaps into your computer like back in the day. If you don't want it underneath then don't put it underneath.
