Nord doesn't have port forwarding. Proton is one of the 2 main options remaining that support port forwarding.

Just a heads up Protons torrenting servers have dramatically slowed. They are better over the last few month than the were 6 months ago but nothing compared to what they used to be. And they state in there terms that they can throttle the torrent connections.

I have 2.5gb plan internet. I used to get about 1.3gb to 1.5gb for torrents
Right now i get between 150 and 300mbps
6 months ago I was only getting about 10-15mbps for connections. so its better but still not the greatest.

if i switch over to non torrent connections can still get the 1.3 to 1.5gb.

As for proton mail a second email address is required. And yes they will give that up easy. They have also implemented additional verifications on new accounts with either phone number verification or open qr code with phone for verification.

I set up an new protonmail account for a new walmart account and as soon as i opened the walmart account proton required additional verification to keep account. Probably to combat fraud. But its yet another layer that you can be tracked.

That said its still a great service. I have had proton vpn probably 8 years, with only one short outage that I remember.
And August 27th The mail service was down for a couple hours. With no reason given for the outage. I think thats the only time the mail service has been down

If you can qualify for Student pricing, One year of VPN is $35.88. One year of Proton Unlimited is $59.88

Community Reviews

Proton VPN Plus stands out for port forwarding and strong torrenting support, with the sale also extending existing subscriptions without losing prepaid time. The student rate and a separate Proton Mail page offer can cut the cost further, and the deal can sometimes be applied to an active plan after logging in. The main knocks are price, since comparable VPN deals can run cheaper, and some reports of slower torrent servers, Linux app rough edges, phone overheating, and occasional service outages. A solid fit if those Proton features matter more than chasing the lowest price.

  • Extending or applying the sale to an existing Proton subscription can preserve already-paid time.

    Play3rtwoPlay3rtwoThe_MsT

  • Proton supports port forwarding, which can matter for certain use cases.

    NavyFlag729drl136us

  • Student pricing can lower the effective cost for Proton VPN Plus or Proton Unlimited.

    luckygecko

  • Non-torrent connections can deliver faster speeds than Proton's torrenting servers.

    tiggertigger

  • Proton's torrenting servers can throttle torrent connections and show much slower throughput.

    tiggertigger

  • Proton Mail setup can require a second email address and additional verification steps.

    tiggertigger

  • Checkout can fail for some buyers when the email address already exists, even after canceling renewal.

    blinkz00

  • Proton services can experience extended downtime, including near back-to-back outages.

My current subscription expires in October. I tried just purchasing this through the link, but I get email address already exists. I cancelled the subscription and tried, but I still get the email already exists. This doesn't work for me.

I used the link and it tried to charge me $120 for 2 years. My current sub expires in 3 months so I may sign up under a different address.

I was able to extend my current membership after logging in. The log in button was a little hidden though.
