Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium Plus Pack is a feature rich thermostat that shines when paired with SmartSensors for multi room comfort and smart home control. Installation is often straightforward, and the app, Google Home, HomeKit, and built in Alexa support make remote control easy. The sensors can help balance upstairs and downstairs temperatures, and the extra sensors can improve accuracy when the thermostat itself runs warm. Caveats include Eco Plus and other smart settings overriding set temperatures, occasional app sluggishness, and reports of sensor or fan quirks. A strong fit if you want room by room control and can tune the automation settings.

If you are not planning to use the smart features (home/away sensing) and don't need remote sensors, don't bother with this. I have it and regret the purchase. The app has a lot of frustrations, and I ultimately disabled most of the smart features and just have it run on a schedule. It's nice to change the temperature from my phone I guess.

Some annoyances:

The energy saving setting is basically just "you set the temperature to 78, cool! We're setting it to 80 for you." Disabled it.

If you manually set a temp, it uses your home sensor settings. You can't manually tell it which sensor to currently use at a given temperature. Have to edit one of the schedule settings do to this.

If you schedule a temperature change, it is triggered a half hour before you schedule, so a change at 6 am changes at 5:30. The idea is that the room will reach the temperature by 6, but it is still something you have to work around.

A few more I can't think of, but at this point I just use it like a typical wifi connected thermostat.

How does this model compare to the ecobee 3 lite? Got that one for nearly free due to some utility incentive like 5 years ago. Got two smart sensors off ebay for like $50.

Make sure not to register your utility so they dont change your thermostat settings on the fly. Only thing I would have wanted better was geofencing, so it changes to away settings when it detects multiple people are not home via phone location. Last I tried, it only works for one person.

Their app also takes a long time to connect to the thermostat every time. Started like this a few years ago. Only fast way now is to directly connect via home assistant or home kit like stuff, but didn't want to go through that route.

Can it be used to replace 2 separate devices: thermostat and humidistat/dehumidistat (I have Honeywell H46C1166)?
Yes it can control some humidifiers as long as you have the wires in the wall.

yes, it does, Heat/Cool Min Delta
Yes, I bought the enhanced version on Amazon ($150) and I'm constantly changing settings for my ac not to cycle very often. It's been 2 days that I think that set it the way I want it. Lol. FYI eco+ mode is a hit n miss. It automatically set it a little warmer for my taste.

I think you have Eco+ turned on, that's why it gets adjusted to 80 when you set it to 78. That could be turned off.
As for the using a sensor in a specific area, yes, that would be nice. I find the feature "follow me" works well. It uses the sensor occupancy feature and normally uses that sensor to keep the "scheduled" temp.

It is not perfect but I've recently replaced an older (8+ year ecobee 3 lite) with this premium one and it works quite well and actually very responsive. Granted I have 9 sensors in my entire house and had quite some time to work out what works for my house.

I also had the ecobee lite and used almost 8+ years. Eventually, I started to feel that the app was not as responsive and then my 4 year old hvac unit started randomly blowing hot air vs cooling. After about $750 of troubleshooting and replacing parts, I've decided to buy ecobee premium as I already had it integrated into my smart home and had 7 sensors at the time. It fixed my problem and app is super responsive and setting work very well and the unit does what it need to do. I'm happy with it. But it gave me a scare when my hvac was malfunctioning and my AC guy did not think it was the thermostat as reports in the app showed Ecobee was calling for cool air but the temperature in rooms climbed (evident by room sensors). Anyway, the point is, this works flawlessly for the past month for me, since install.

It appearss all your issues except last one have been addressed by nukleus2Disable pre cooling mode. It will start at desired time. Pre cooling mode is an intelligent option that ecobee dettermines the amount time it needs to to bring downt to set temperature and starts cooling ahead of time

These are great especially if you have a 2 story house. It helps balance the temp between upstairs and downstairs by cycling the system when necessary.

One for downstairs and one for upstairs. Just a heads up as if you have any moving air near the thermostat, the sensor gets all thrown off. Ultimately ended up returning and back with my Honeywell system.
  1. Rebates may be available if you buy a smart thermostat. Check with your utility or state to see if anything is offered.
  2. I have the one-sensor model and the thermostat itself runs very hot which of course throws off it's own temperature reading. Having this 2 sensor model is a better idea, and you can disable the sensor in the thermostat to get more accurate readings from just the external sensors.

I bought it for the same price when it was on sale last time at Costco. I haven't installed it yet because I keep seeing mixed reviews. So now I'm super confused about whether it's worth the trouble.

Also, my utility company has a $75 rebate, but I've been getting the runaround from them after filling out the rebate form online.

Is anyone familiar with getting these to work with an Daiken mini split heat pump?
