Inspections are down, outbreaks are up, and there are recent "relaxations" of import restrictions on beef products. The man in charge of the program, the one who set it up, when asked the origin of the product replied "I don't want to say." That's a direct quote. Not that he doesn't know, or that it's to be determined, or that it will be carefully inspected to ensure it meets standards, but that he doesn't want to say where it's coming from.
I'm afraid the call with any propaganda, on the food safety front, is coming from inside the house at this point.

The USDA does not require beef that carries a USDA seal to be disclosed where the beef originates from.
The UPC shows where the company is registered and the # by the USDA seal show the facility of processing.
Remains mystery meat on source / origin. And also on content of meat products sprayed with ammonia which is allowed by the USDA. See my other post about pink slime
