Just an FYI, this sound system will undoubtedly leave you wanting more. 18 watts isn't much, and that's the listed max power. RMS power is just 7.5 watts per channel. Spending $75 more for the more powerful $200 model will get you 30 watts RMS per channel or 60 total. 60 watts isn't going to blow anyone away but it's a substantial upgrade with 4 times the wattage.

Nothing about this or the more expensive model is going to blow people away, but that's not what they buy this for. This is for moderate sound in smaller spaces like a bedroom or home office. The power output doesn't mean much without knowing the sensitivity of the speakers, since increasing the sensitivity by 3db is the equivalent of doubling the power.

Right. Neither one is going to blow anyone away, but assuming the speaker sensitivity is close to the same, we know the next model up is 60 watts so it's gonna be a full 6db louder than 15 watts, which is substantially louder and IMHO easily worth the $75 difference in price. Especially when you consider the step up $200 model at 60 watts can play just as loud as 4 of the cheaper $125 models put together.

I just think that if someone is in a situation where power is that important, they wouldn't be looking for an all-in-one like this.

You're categorizing all consumers into just 2 groups. Those who want a simple, low-powered 7.5-watt-per-channel personal stereo, and those who want a system that knocks pictures off the walls and rattles windows. In reality, there's a much wider range of consumers than that. There are people who want something in between. There's a substantial difference in loudness between a 15-watt stereo and a 60-watt stereo. It's the same difference in loudness as jumping from 60 to 240 watts & again from 240 watts to 1000 watts. Not all consumers fall into either wanting a personal ultra-low-powered 7.5-watt-per-channel personal stereo like this one, or wanting a multi kilowatt mega stereo for full blown block parties.

The sound quality of even the highest end cassette players & cassettes don't come close to a high bitrate digital recording or CD's. I'd recommend downloading high quality digital copies of your music, then throwing away (or keeping) your ever degrading low-fidelity cassettes. If you want hard copies, just burn your high bitrate digital media to CD's. Keep in mind, owning digital copies of music that you cant prove you paid for has been deemed legal as long as you claim you at one time owned an original paid for source, like a previously paid for downloaded copy or a CD or even cassette. The movie industry has been going back and forth on this very heated subject for decades and are at the point were you are allowed to own digital personal copies of copyrighted media because you can claim they are backups of what you already paid for in the past. It's also very hard from them to prove that you didn't paid for them because you can lose stuff like receipts and records to fires, floods, even just moving, and that's what a backup is for. If you lose the original. It comes down to It's legal to own a digital copy of basically anything, as long as you claim it's is a copy of something you purchased in the past. Just make sure you claim all your media is for personal use only.

This is probably junk since Philips shuttered its consumer electronics some time ago. The real Philips made nice audio equipments back in the 90's. If you want something that sounds better than this, you'll need to shop for second hand system made in the 90's, especially if you're looking for a minisystem or microsystem with a cassette player.

You are describing a huge difference between the two different setups that is much more radical than I stated. I didn't say a system with massive towers and 1,000 watts of power, I simply said individual components. In your previous comment you stated the difference between the two Philips systems would be 6db. It is generally accepted that an increase of 10db is perceived as twice as loud, so the bigger Philips is not that much louder. Human hearing is logarithmic, so you need large increases in power for moderate increases in volume.
