Things look further away or smaller compared to a traditional rear view mirror. Also, you don't get blinded by high beams in the mirror.

I was about to replace the head unit in my older truck, essentially only to get a "seemless backup camera". I had not thought about replacing the rear-view mirror.

how well does this work as a backup cam? Does it boot quickly (in time for you to turn on, seatbelt in, and just backup like normal?) does it switch automatically to backup cam when you go in reverse (how hard was that install?)

this is not a backup cam, it's a recording cam. If you want a backup cam, you should just get a license plate frame camera, and wire it up to an android auto/apple carplay head unit. Most of them support it. Chinese ones work just as well as name brand ones, but most people prefer to have a physical dial for volume instead of all touch screen.

For my car I don't use it as a backup camera because it's mounted at the highest point in the rear window. Also my car has a backup camera already.

I did install a similar mirror dash camera to my brothers 02 Corolla. It is mounted above the license plate. It does not have the parking guide lines when you hit reverse because I didn't bother to install to the reverse wire. It works fine so long as you use the side mirrors to make sure you don't hit a car or wall on either side.

As for boot time on this specific mirror. Mine takes a couple seconds to prepare the sd card. Again, I use my car factory back up camera so it is not an issue for me.

What makes you say it isn't a backup cam? It includes a rear view camera and the unit has reverse assist with backup guidance.

absolutely incorrect. This is an excellent backup camera, but also records. This is not an old-school backup camera with a separate attachment for your license plate. This has a separate wire that attaches to reverse lights so when that's triggered, you'll get the back up with lines. I don't use that feature. The primary is set to rear view and the front is constantly recording but displaying both is confusing.

To add to my recent reply, if the camera is connected to be powered at all times, then there should not be a boot up time. I have the kit but have not had the time to install it yet.

I already have a Viofo which I believe has better cameras, but I want that rearview display mirror. Can I connect a Viofo rear camera to this thing?

if not, how can I integrate this thing into my existing camera set up? I expect to at least be able to use it as back up camera? The default one in the car is too dim during the daylight
