Hunter is old school and honestly great for a boomer who needs an analog dumb controller, and thats fine. Fancy software is too complex for white hairs who like to turn knobs vs open an app, and thats fine. But dont knock the Rachio just because you didnt take the time to wire it correctly and replace some valve internals that are aging.
For people who enjoy having a user accessible API though, Rachio is awesome. I built a custom kiosk dashboard that brings in my weather station, watering schedules, the rachio pictures, soil moisture meters, etc etc. I hooked up 4 extra zones to my 16 zone, 3 of which drip irrigate my 3 garden beds which are 20'x4' each. The 4th zone tops off my chicken coops 50 gallon barrel of water that i installed a float valve in. Super simple, automated, and been running the Rachio for 5 years with the only hiccup being one valve going bad. Rachio clearly indicated the low resistance, told me the zone, and made diagnosing it easy as pie. Ordered a new valve from amazon and just swapped the internals and boom, working perfectly ever since.
