How difficult are these to install and set up zones, etc? Would love to have a wifi connected system and the smart weather sounds nice too.

Depends on how "smart" you want it to be. If you know what type of soil you have and what type of plants, along with info about what the irrigation setup is, then it will take weather into account and limit watering to a calculated soil moisture level. It also can be setup to spread watering out to brief intermittent moments to avoid waste of water and improve absorption. It does not do a great job explaining how these will work so you have to set them up and learn over time what choices it makes and why.

Very different from standard clocks that and how many people set them up more simply.

Not bad at all. The biggest issues I had were that my irrigation controller is outside so I had to get the Outdoor Enclosure Box for the Rachio, which I did not know about when I bought it. Other than that the only issues I had were the contractor that installed the irrigation system cut 2 of the wires just a bit short to get to all the Rachip terminals, otherwise the install would have been pretty easy. One issue I had was the Wifi constantly disconnecting. I had a TP-Link Archer AXE7800 router and the Rachio would not stay connected to it. As soon as I changed routers the Rachio has stayed connected with no issues.

TLDR; Avoid if your irrigation runs off a well/pump. Support is not very knowledgeable and will guess and have you replace parts. Cheap/sensative electronics don't play well with pump start relays and they "officially" only support like 4 models from one brand...the brand I have btw and still didn't work consistently.

Just sent one of these back after 3 weeks of troubleshooting. Swapping out the old controller was easy but the rachio threw faults constantly. Support repeatedly tried to blame my "field wiring" or a bad solenoid...My irrigation system was fully functional on the 15+ year old controller but they didn't want to hear that. I replaced components of my well pump controller unnecessarily and finally had enough. I put the old controller back up and all was working again as it did before Rachio. I've since tried another smart controller at the recommendations of pros on Reddit. The Hunter HPC is working perfectly, zero issues.

How does this compare to yolink? I already have yolink hub and leak sensors, which is solid. Checking if I should just use the same ecosystem or add a new app..

Rachio is a much better controller, better support, everything is better than it than that one you linked.

Also look to your water district for rebates. These are often available for a rebate up to $xx!

It is possible the price will drop further by the end of the season by another $25-$50. I've bought this at $99.

I bought the 16-zone (much more than I needed, but it was the one on sale), and I found it incredibly easy for a novice to set up and control. It really does a good job at shipping unnecessary watering and providing pretty darn accurate precipitation forecasts - at least in my location. I'd highly recommend it.

I agree. My town would give discounts to where the 8 zone was like $30 and 12 is $35. When I checked last year they were still doing special purchases. Best way to "encourage" us to adhere to strict water days is to make it easy for us to do, right???

Y'all towns may do the same and you don't know it because they aren't touting it

Not even close to the deal I got for the Rachio 3, got it for $59 at Sam's Club. At that price I figured they were going out of business. Got me one anyways since it was just $59. And yes this was the Rachio 3!
