Serial port is 9 pins, VGA is 15. That's definitely a serial port.

This HP 800 G6 Mini is a compact corporate 10th gen desktop that stands out for low power use, Windows 11 Pro support, and flexible ports for office or lab setups. The DB9 connector is treated as a serial port on the FLEX card, which makes it useful for legacy gear, POS scanners, medical devices, or projector presentations. The mini also has multiple M.2 slots and can support extra storage, with some setups even using Oculink for an external GPU. Main cautions are the refurbished off lease nature, possible BIOS locks, and storage quality that may vary. The price also draws pushback as high for an i5.

Common Questions (5)

  • The connector is described as a DB-9 serial port, not VGA. HP documentation is cited as having configurable FLEX ports, and the serial port is on that FLEX card/port; it can be useful for legacy devices like POS scanners or older equipment.

    tai_sonJungleJunkiedvpateldcpoor

  • Several comments say the price is high for an i5-10500T mini PC, with comparable 10500T units reportedly found around $160. The effective price can drop with coupon codes, but the listing is still viewed as expensive for the hardware.

    androidf58carbonfiberdawaveWittyJoke399

  • It supports a 2.5-inch drive, but you may need the extra caddy and cable to mount it. The machine also has multiple M.2 slots, which makes additional storage or even Oculink-style expansion possible.

    tyiu48JabumbusHusbeard

  • The refurbished units are expected to already have a Windows 11 license tied to the device. After installing an SSD and loading Windows 11 installation media, Windows 11 Pro can auto-activate once the machine connects to the internet.

    RyosukeFCRyosukeFC

  • Some off-lease units may be BIOS locked, and the seller reportedly could not confirm the BIOS status for each machine. That makes BIOS lock a real buyer risk on refurbished corporate minis.

Good eye Merlin, it's a DB9 serial connection, probably 19.2 kbs data transfer.
I'm sure with the right hardware attached and a short cable you could go faster. Up to 115.2 kbs.

Prove it!
These are great for a cheap external GPU gaming PC. Oculink one of the NVMe slots and you're off to the races.

Description says VGA display, but the picture shows a RS-232 DB-9 male connector. I would say the picture is wrong. Should be a VGA port

Serial port? That's VGA video out.

These are corporate computers. Most projectors still have a VGA in for powerpoint presentations.

These are 10th gen mini PCs with USB-C ports... Companies were still using them from 2022-2024. Very nice, low power machines the size of a small dining plate.
Or you could have just looked at the auction pictures... LOL

A lot of POS systems use serial ports for scanners.

Buyer beware. Many of these are corporate off lease and are bios locked. Research shows that bios password cannot be reset. I tried messaging the seller to confirm is BIOS is locked, but seller does not allow questions. Again, buyer beware!
