This HP 800 G6 Mini is a compact corporate 10th gen desktop that stands out for low power use, Windows 11 Pro support, and flexible ports for office or lab setups. The DB9 connector is treated as a serial port on the FLEX card, which makes it useful for legacy gear, POS scanners, medical devices, or projector presentations. The mini also has multiple M.2 slots and can support extra storage, with some setups even using Oculink for an external GPU. Main cautions are the refurbished off lease nature, possible BIOS locks, and storage quality that may vary. The price also draws pushback as high for an i5.

  • The unit includes configurable FLEX ports that can support legacy serial-device workflows when properly configured.

  • The mini PC form factor supports low-power small-form-factor setups for projector or VGA-based presentations.

  • The hardware layout may allow Oculink-style expansion by using an NVMe slot for an external GPU use case.

  • Windows 11 Pro can reportedly activate automatically after installing an SSD and connecting to the internet.

  • Some off-lease units may be BIOS-locked, and the seller may not confirm BIOS lock status before purchase.

  • Refurbished lease-return units may include a replaced "no name" SSD, so storage component quality is not guaranteed.

  • The pictured port information may be wrong, since the description mentions VGA while the image appears to show an RS-232 DB-9 connector.

  • The total value can be limited because Windows 11 Pro licensing and missing SSD/RAM still require additional spending for a usable system.

I have purchased several of this generation 800 and 805 mini pcs. This price seems high for an i5. I have purchased one with an i9 for $20 more. And an 805 with the Ryzen 7 32gb ram, 1 tb ssd and gtx 1660ti for $430 both in the last 4 months. They optionally were available with a nvidia gtx 1660ti for models with 35w processors. I put them in retro gaming and virtual pinball cabinets and prefer the HP models to the lenovo and dell options that are similar in size. They max out at 64gb ram and the m2 nvme slots do support up to 8tb each in spite of what the HP documentation suggests. With the nvidia card installed you can not use the flex io v2 slot, where the db9 serial port is installed on this unit, or the 2.5" sata bay. They are great mini pcs this just isn't really a slickdeal.

yea, I bought a used HP Pro Desk 405 mini with a Ryzen 5 4650GE + 8GB ram last month for $100 (only need a SSD and probably another stick of 8GB DDR4 sodimm). The Vega 7 that comes with the Ryzen is not the newest but it is still much better than the UHD graphic that comes with the Intels.

Note: To be clear, it is not from some random one off ebay sale. It is actually from some company with 20k+ feedback (and it is still available but they raised the price to $130...)

You can argue it is used vs refurbished. Fair vs good cosmetic condition. ProDesk vs EliteDesk, etc. For me, it is worth it since I am paying like $100+ less for something with a little less features but better processor/graphic combination.

This is from the seller I bought from:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/257721480537

They also have other minis (all have SSD removed from what I have seen). They got one with a i5 12500T for like $200 iirc.

Not the same seller I bought from but this one comes with 256GB SSD + 16GB ram:

@RyosukeFC Honestly that's not remotely comparable unless it's for a linux appliance.

Please be more specific. If you are referring to those minis not having OS, it is only because they don't come with SSD. You can install Windows 11 Pro on them and they will activate without problem.

Win11 Pro license retail is $199.99, and you still don't have anywhere to install it yet. Although I see MS does currently have them on sale $135 so you have about $50 to get the SSD & ram, or $0 at full retail.

No. There is no need to buy any Windows license. Those are most likely off lease computers originally with Windows 11 installed on them, and the SSDs were removed mostly for security reason. So, all of them should already have a Windows 11 license associated with them. When I set up the one that I bought last month, all I needed to do was to install a SSD, then used the Windows 11 installation media to install Windows 11 on it. Once connected to the internet, Windows 11 Pro was automatically activated. There is no need to buy any addition license.

Buyer beware. Many of these are corporate off lease and are bios locked. Research shows that bios password cannot be reset. I tried messaging the seller to confirm is BIOS is locked, but seller does not allow questions. Again, buyer beware!
I asked the same question two times because AI tells you to check the bios lock before purchase. The seller answers. The answer is the seller does not know if there is a bios lock in each machine.

Prove it!These are great for a cheap external GPU gaming PC. Oculink one of the NVMe slots and you're off to the races.

Just bought 1 and paid way less. Search for 10500T and there are some at $160. 280 is way too high.
