The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-500SA is a heavy, versatile pair of Dolby Atmos height speakers that can also serve as surrounds or front presence speakers. They are meant to bounce sound off the ceiling or be mounted above you, and they can be wall mounted into a stud. The RP version adds a larger Tractrix horn and a slightly wider soundstage, though the sonic jump over cheaper Klipsch height speakers is described as modest. This is the first generation RP-500SA, not the II model, so it fits best if matching Klipsch RP gear matters.
Home theater builders adding height effects, because they can bounce sound off the ceiling or mount above the listening position.
Klipsch RP system upgraders matching existing speakers, because these make sense when you plan to keep the same brand family for future surrounds and height channels.
Listeners wanting a modest sonic step up from older height modules, because the larger horn and wider soundstage are described as only a minor improvement.
They are meant for a more complex surround setup, not as a soundbar replacement. They can bounce sound off the ceiling for Atmos or be mounted above the listening position.
They offer the RP line's larger Tractrix horn and a slightly wider soundstage, but the sonic gain is described as minor. At this price they are still much more expensive than sale-priced R-41SA or other budget height speakers, so they make the most sense if you want matching Klipsch RP speakers.
Yes, they can be mounted above you for Atmos use, and they have also been mounted into a wall stud as front presence speakers. They are very heavy, so secure mounting hardware and a solid stud are important.
Always have been interested in the RP versions, but even at this sale price it's 2-3x more expensive than the R-41SA when it's on sale, so will stick with the cheaper ones.
So I got the energy deal a few weeks back for the CR set and a RSL10e. Would these be good for front and back atmos speakers speakers to go 5.1.4?
Is that the $800 RC bundle? This would be overkill. The only way this would make sense is if you could see yourself upgrading to Klipsch RP for your other speakers in the future and you want to already have matching height speakers. There's been several deals for $100 pairs of Polk, Jamo, Sony and lower end Klipsch height speakers that would make more sense.
The $299 price is for the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-500SA NOT the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-500SA II.
What's the difference with the new version? This is a price I might be ok with even if it isn't a crazy deal. Only thing that sucks is i have 500Mii's not floor speakers so I don't know how well they'll fit on top.

Probably the biggest is the updated larger Tractrix horn & slightly wider soundstage.
Sonically it's minor and probably only notice in a side-by-side comparison.
Crazy how the gen it's were on dale for the same price a year ago. Will be waiting till BF to see if they go on sale again. Still listed at over $600 on crutchfield which is insane.
