The FCC rule is a ban on NEW routers made outside the US after March 2026, but ones (like this) with existing FCC approval can continue to be sold. They'll be restricted on firmware and software updates after March 1 2027, unless the manufacturer gains exemptions, approvals, or moves manufacturing to the USA. TP-link doesn't have this exception yet, but they're seeking one.
Please excuse me for discussing politics; I don't intend to start a fight, but it's relevant to technology, the economy/pricing, and the function of this product here.

The Archer BE550 is a tri band Wi Fi 7 router that stands out for strong real world coverage and mesh use, especially in homes and apartments with lots of devices. It has been paired successfully with EasyMesh, handled an 1800 square foot ranch with cameras, work, streaming, and gaming, and delivered comparable upper floor speeds on a 1 gig connection. The main caveats are heat related restarts, inconsistent software, and MLO instability unless that network is disabled. It is a capable value pick if you want Wi Fi 7 without chasing the top tier model.
Common Questions (5)
It can cover a medium-to-large home well when centrally placed, including an 1800 sq ft ranch with multiple cameras, work devices, and streaming/gaming. Two units can also be linked with EasyMesh or wired backhaul for stronger coverage across a two-story home with a basement.
Yes. It can be used as an access point, and paired units have been used successfully in EasyMesh or wired backhaul setups for broader coverage.
MLO can improve performance and lower ping on many devices, but it can also cause instability on this router. Disabling the MLO network entirely is a practical fix if you run into connection issues, and some devices may work better on the main SSID instead of the MLO SSID.
It works well for using the 6GHz band, especially in an apartment, and is a tri-band Wi‑Fi 7 router at a good price. Its 2.4GHz band is limited to Wi‑Fi 6/AX rather than Wi‑Fi 7, so that matters if you want Wi‑Fi 7 on every band.
It can restart quite often due to heat and may struggle to sustain high, constant speeds without overheating. That makes it a weaker fit for very fast fiber or heavy always-on loads unless cooling and placement are favorable.

While we're at it, I only use GrapheneOS on my phone and Linux on my computers. Nothing is bulletproof, but I'm not going to make it easy.
