I found maybe 2 dozen on my M1097R1. I have a cnc machine that uses them and heavy duty bearings still commonly use them. They're still around but yes youre right, things these days are designed to last for the life of the assembly they are put in with no upkeep required from the end user and therefore aren't intended to be serviceable.

Not really. I have both and only use the l&l. The prongs on this are still harder to engage especially if you're not coming in exactly straight. It's much faster and easier for the L&L to grab on. If you are looking for L&L functionality just buy the real thing.

Trailer wheel bearings, universal joints and control arms on automobiles, shaft bearings on heavy duty electric motors, relief bearings for drive shafts on industrial equipment, tractors, tractor implements, etc. Pretty much lots of stuff that's outside, or in places where people work with tools and their hands.

So very limited uses for average Joe. That's what I was thinking.

If that's what you consider to be outside the scope of work for "average joes", then who does all the actual work where you live? Is the guy who services your car or the bus you ride not average?

No. Those guy are professional nipple greasers. Average Joe does not often encounter nipples that need greasing.

Does a professional nipple greaser need a four year college degree or does trade school suffice? How much education does operating a grease gun require? I've been getting by for 30 years with a high school diploma.

Consider getting the NMNG (National Master Nipple Greaser) certification. That will give you the ability to work greasing nipples anywhere in the country. You should also join the USNGU (U.S. Nipple Greasers' Union). They can help protect you against the consequences of inappropriate behavior.
