Apple's Leather Link band is a convenient magnetic leather strap that stays secure and works well for everyday wear. The newer magnets hold firmly, and long term wear looks solid for some, with the outer leather holding up well even after months or years of use. Fit is the main caution, since the S/M size is for smaller Apple Watches and the band may click in without sitting flush on the edges. Water is another weak point, with reports of bubbling, odor, discoloration, and even ripping after extended use.
Common Questions (5)
No. The S/M Leather Link is for the smaller Apple Watch sizes and will be too small for larger 46mm models like Series 11. It can still click in and function on some mismatched sizes, but the fit may not be correct.
It can click in and work, but it may not sit flush at the edges. On some size combinations, the connector edges stick out slightly, which matters if you want a perfect visual fit.
It can hold up well for long-term wear, including frequent workouts, with strong magnets and little visible wear on the outside. The underside and brown interior can discolor or fade over time, and one report says a blue band ripped after about 6 months.
No. Getting it wet can cause bubbling, and submerging it in water can also make it start to smell. It is better suited to dry daily wear than swimming or heavy water exposure.
The genuine Apple band has held up for months without wear and avoids the skin irritation reported with a knockoff. The finish and clasp details are slightly nicer, and the long-term durability is better than the cheaper lookalike.

I bought a refurb Apple Watch from Best Buy about a year ago, and it came in a brown box with a new-looking but wrong sized Sport band, and I had a suspicion that it was a fake. It looked quite good initially, but the edges of the band ended up wearing down and started looking crappy within like 2 months.
I ended up buying a legit Apple band using a $10 promo credit I also got from Best Buy. Comparing the two, the finish on the legit metal button/clasp thing is extremely close but slightly nicer, and the legit one has the size printed on the inside, but it would be very hard to tell the difference between them if they were both new.
HOWEVER, the Apple band has held up for 10 months so far without any signs of wear. Significantly better than whatever knockoff came with the refurb. The knockoff band also irritated my skin after a while. I thought maybe it was just dirty so I'd frequently wash it but I'd still get a small rash on my wrist. I'd definitely avoid any Apple-lookalike dupes on Temu or Ali, the long term issues aren't worth it.
