The feedback there was that model clogs too easily and overall it sucks (not in the way a vacuum should). The newer models apparently fix some of those issues. This would be the latest stick vac offered by Ryobi, so it's likely as good as you're going to get with a One+ battery system for now.

Comparing cordless to cordless - Ryobi isn't in the same solar system as Dyson in that regard. This is much closer to the Shark pet stick (I forget the exact model for the basic). Not to say the Shark stick is bad - it just doesn't have the same suction as our battery powered Dyson. However, the Dyson was also more than double the price of the Shark pet stick (maybe almost triple.)

I have this. I had a previous Ryobi stick model before. This one is notably better than the prior model I had. Suction is better, removing the rollers for cleaning is easier. It has some anti hair tangle, but honestly I don't think any vacuum is a match for my wife's nearly 3 foot hair. I love the charging dock and being able to put it away and charge without taking the battery out, but having the option of just slapping another battery in. $399 original price is too much but $269 is more than fair. I don't know that this is the vacuum to go with if you aren't already in the Ryobi world, but I have all Ryobi tools and batteries and this made sense for me. I'm pleased with it.

We got this vacuum recently to replace our dying LG CordZero A9. I'll be honest, I like it a LOT more than the LG which was a commonly recommended vacuum. It has more suction, rolls smoother, it's quieter, and the lights are genuinely useful (I expected them to be gimmicky). I watched several YouTube comparisons and the Ryobi went toe to toe with much more expensive Dyson's and often times performed better in the head to head tests.

You neglected to mention that multiple people, myself included, firmly disputed the feedback you cite and have very favorable impressions of the Ryobi vac.

This vacuum has 2 parts that are pretty weak and tend to break pretty easily. It has decent suction and I like how quiet it is, but a Dyson is better suction but extremely expensive at the same time and Dyson also has a few weak parts which render the vacuum useless until you replace that part which is either extremely expensive or impossible to buy so you have to send it back to Dyson and pay them ridiculous fees for them to fix it. Dyson also has ridiculously expensive batteries which is why there are a lot of $20 or less 3rd party adapaters to use most popular power tool batteries on a Dyson vacuum. I've used a Ryobi battery on a Dyson and a Milwaukee battery on a Dyson with an adapter. Unfortunately Dyson makes their products proprietary and very difficult to fix/maintain on purpose like John Deere so I boycot them for being so anti-consumer.
