Is there any reason to upgrade from bridge 1 to 2 if your not really having any issues?

Bridge 1 is actually really old at this point, if you bought your bridge in the past 10 years like me, you likely have a bridge 2 already. But just in case, if your apps connected to hue all work there's no point in upgrading. The only thing the gen 2 adds is homekit and a few other API tools that enable newer platforms.

it doesn't really. Smartthings is a hub for a wide variety of devices using Matter, Zigbee, and Z-wave. It's meant to tie a bunch of things together. Hue is primarily designed for Hue bulbs and buttons, though they have added more sensors and things over the years. Hue primarily uses zigbee (though I think some of the new bulbs also use bluetooth). It's pretty picky about what kinds of third party devices it will allow to connect. If you just want smart bulbs that will almost never fail, the Hue ecosystem is great. If you want more of a fully integrated smart home, Smartthings fills that role better (Though I would argue that Hubitat is better, and home assistant is far, far better)
