25% off this is the best ferro rod I found on Amazon (considering size, price, quality, and ease of use). Even if you don't need it now, it is good to have one, and learn how to use it.

5ft Paracord included, gives you a good grip and never comes off. Comes with a bayite Striker-Pro striker attached to the paracord, always be prepared to start a fire
bayite 6 Striking Edges Striker-Pro striker is made from TOOL GRADE HSS STEEL and has a distinct hardness, maximizes a shower of hot sparks, no matter whether you prefer to use your left hand or right hand to scrape. Don't use bad quality Knife as striker. Otherwise it will not produce enough sparks due to insufficient hardness of blade
Ferrocerium Rod Length:4"(10cm). Diameter: 3/8"(10mm). Large enough for a shower of sparks and small enough to carry
Made of high effective ferrocerium rod. Waterproof & Weatherproof, fits all weather, works in any weather condition
Sparks shower at 5,500 F (3,000 C) to ignite a fire in any weather (even wet), at any altitude. Perfect emergency fire starter for Bushcraft, Hiking, Hunting, Fishing, EDC, Emergency, BBQ, Gas Camp Stoves, etc.

Almost all cheap ferro rods such as this have very low quality ferrocerium and create significantly less sparks than a high quality rod would that you get from a dedicated camping website that specializes in ferro rods and other fire starting tools. Those cost 2x to 4x more but they are worth it because I really don't want to be stuck in the wilderness where I really need to start a fire and my ferro rod barely makes any sparks no matter how hard I strike it. I know that every cheap ferro rod from Harbor Freight and Big 5 are terrible. Same with every cheap one I've tried from Ebay and AliExpress. The high quality good name brand ones sold on Ebay are good as long as they are genuine and not clones which is becoming more common.

Are you serious right now? So, you are knocking down the product that you haven't tried.
If you even bothered to look, you would see that this thing has 13 000 reviews (THIRTEEN THOUSAND REVIEWS) and 4.7 STARS RATING on Amazon. Enough said.

Talk about swing and miss.

This baylite rod was rated one of the best back in 2019 ... its a perennial favorite for cost / quality on the prepper websites.

You maybe right that there are bad cheap ferro rods, but, this does not appear to be one of them.

I bought this exact ferro rod back in 2019 and thought I was getting a good deal at $11.65 before tax. Once you scrape past the protective coating, this thing is a beast - thows an impressive shower of sparks that looks like a mini 4th of July fireworks display.

I'm going to give you a modicum of credit insofar as you're correct there's a lot of cheap firestarters out there that aren't a bargain at any price. But you're really off base applying that caution to this one. Always safer to know precisely what you're talking about before taking it upon yourself to trash a specific product.

I don't understand the downvotes. If you disagree, please speak up and explain why.
  1. I understand that my language was harsh. However, this guy made a political statement in the comments (which either he or the moderators later deleted) when there was absolutely no reason to bring politics into a this discussion.
  2. I can't understand people who trash a product, or hype it up, without ever having owned or used it. That is ridiculous. If you have firsthand experience with the product, share it. If you don't, why pretend that you know how good or bad it is?

Agreed. Some folks just feel a perverse need to be negative. It seems related to those solitary downvotes I often see next to a chorus of upvotes given to responses that are objectively accurate, helpful and on point. I think there are some truly sad, isolated people in this world who only feel validated when they can share their negativity with everyone else. They have my pity.
