You didn't even have to read past the first paragraph to see that he's focusing on the "internet". Have you found a way to blame the EPA for that too?

This is an excellent book. I "read" the audiobook recently. Despite the memey title, Enshittification is a complex cycle of corporate behavior whereby a company initially treats its customers well, then gradually begins to shift in an increased effort to maximize its extraction of value from those customers. Then, instead of leading to a death spiral, this value extraction continues indefinitely due to network effects and customer lock-in. It's a complex cycle of behaviors and I think Doctorow does a great job of explaining it in a very accessible way.

Buy this from Bookshop.org to get the DRM free version, it's what Doctorow would want you to do (he's been a staunch anti-DRM advocate).

This is an excellent book. I "read" the audiobook recently. Despite the memey title, Enshittification is a complex cycle of corporate behavior whereby a company initially treats its customers well, then gradually begins to shift in an increased effort to maximize its extraction of value from those customers. Then, instead of leading to a death spiral, this value extraction continues indefinitely due to network effects and customer lock-in. It's a complex cycle of behaviors and I think Doctorow does a great job of explaining it in a very accessible way.

What irks me most about Prime Video ads, is they aren't personalized. Amazon has more data about the shit I buy than anyone so serve ads that make sense for me of things I'm likely to buy based on my history!!Instead it's just Ozempic, Jardiance, Skyrizi, Rinvoq, Dupixent, Wegovy, Zepbound, Rexulti, Vraylar, Caplyta, Tremfya and on and on and on and on...

Excellent book. Read it last month.

Watch his interviews on YouTube to get a taste. Doctorow is an amazing communicator. Exceptionally well organized, accessible, interesting, and funny.

There are many audiences for this on this from the anti-trust liberals to the privacy-loving conservatives, to the conspiracy theoriest that hate big data, to the everday folks that are angry that everything is getting more expensive while getting noticeably worse.

There is no need to buy a book about this. Things got worse because companies got more greedy. What can you do about it? Just stop buying non-essential things or buy a cheaper version. Maybe check slickdeals more often for a good deal on something,haha.
