I guess I should have bought more.
You take a performance hit by staying on older hardware, but not significantly. Not enough to justify the insane prices of DDR5 if you actually need high capacity ram (which you do if you want to multitask).
The only time you actually NEED DDR5 right now is if you want newer cpu's with built-in AI capability. But you also pay a massive premium for that.
I'm just glad I bought the ram I needed before the AI craze. If I ever need to run a local LLM, I'll do it off my video card probably.

I'll be honest I don't bother with pci express 4 ssd, raw read write speeds mean nothing except on a benchmark for bragging rights and seriously who cares? I'd rather have capacity and reliability any day.
