the reason this board is trash is that there are really no pcie slots. yeah I see the x16 but the other ones are worthless.
apparently I bought this mobo from amazon a bunch of times, but when I did it was like $79 "MSI PRO B550M-VC WiFi ProSeries Motherboard (AMD Ryzen 5000 Series, AM4, DDR4, PCIe 4.0, SATA 6Gb/s, M.2, USB 3.2 Gen 2, HDMI/DP, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, mATX) "

I guess I should have bought more.
My guess is the majority of people only use one PCIE slot
You think you're gonna get free RAM for $70? Things sound nice in this fantasy land that you live in, what year is it over there?
Agree with you to an extent, but I'll also note that DDR4 prices are not as inflated as DDR5. If you actually need high capacity ram for productivity, it makes a lot of sense to stay on DDR4-based builds for now. DDR4 prices are still inflated, but they're less than half DDR5 prices for the same amount of ram.
You take a performance hit by staying on older hardware, but not significantly. Not enough to justify the insane prices of DDR5 if you actually need high capacity ram (which you do if you want to multitask).
The only time you actually NEEDDDR5 right now is if you want newer cpu's with built-in AI capability. But you also pay a massive premium for that.
I'm just glad I bought the ram I needed before the AI craze. If I ever need to run a local LLM, I'll do it off my video card probably.

I saw 4 memory dimm slots. 2 m.2 slots. Extra sata ports. What more do you need for your m atx build besides WiFi for this price? WiFi boards will cost 30-50$ more minimum. For a cheap build with a Ryzen 5 5500. It's plenty good. If you can somehow find a kit of ddr4 3200 on eBay for a reasonable price and it's not oem junk so you can set up a DOCP (XMP) profile, you got a decent computer that will perform well and easily add a GPU along the lines of an rtx 3080/ rtx 4070 and it won't be bottlenecked by the pci express gen 3 because of the cpu limitations, nor the bandwidth.
I'll be honest I don't bother with pci express 4 ssd, raw read write speeds mean nothing except on a benchmark for bragging rights and seriously who cares? I'd rather have capacity and reliability any day.
