These still get stick drift. To put a Hall effect joystick would be a few bucks for Microsoft or Nintendo and they still don't put it in their controllers. Shows the level of greed vs wanting a quality product
The Elite Series 2 Core is a highly customizable Xbox controller built for players who want extra paddles, remapping, trigger locks, and a weighted, premium feel. It stands out for comfort and precision, with tight buttons and sticks, strong battery life, and durability that can outlast standard controllers in heavy use. The main concern is reliability, especially stick drift, bumper failures, grip peeling, and occasional button issues. For some setups it holds up for years, but the hardware risks are hard to ignore.
Controller-heavy players who wear out standard pads quickly, because the Elite can last much longer before buttons or sticks start failing.
Competitive players who want extra paddles and trigger locks, because the controller is highly customizable and can prevent trigger breakage during heavy play.
Players who value a weighted, tight-feeling controller with strong battery life, because the buttons and sticks feel high quality and the battery lasts long.
It can develop stick drift, and bumper failures are a recurring issue. Some units last years with no drift, but others report RB/LB failure, double-pressing bumpers, or drift after months or years of use.
It can last longer than a standard controller for heavy use, especially if you use trigger locks and rely on the paddles instead of the shoulder buttons. Some users report years of use with no major issues, while others see grips peeling, buttons sticking, or the controller falling apart within months.
For some players it is worth it because of the paddles, customization, and long battery life, especially if they burn through regular controllers. Others say the lack of Hall-effect or TMR sticks makes it hard to justify at $100+ when cheaper third-party controllers offer similar features.
It uses a 125Hz polling rate, which is much lower than high-polling-rate PC controllers. For latency-sensitive PC gaming, commenters point to Razer Wolverine, Scuf Valor Pro, or Hall-effect/TMR alternatives as better options.
Yes. The controller supports extensive customization, including button remapping, rumble settings, and extra paddles on the back. That makes it especially useful for competitive play or for players who want more control options than a standard Xbox controller.

I could never understand paying a higher cost for a controller than a game itself ... Or three or four if you are buying older stuff
Almost every part of the controller is customizable. From rumble to button remapping. I paid MSRP for it back in 2023 and still think I got a hell of a deal. I still think the dualsense edge is a better controller and that was $180 and has two less paddles.

I bought one a couple of years ago and have absolutely loved it. I haven't experienced any stick drift yet. I was going through non-elite controllers every six months because I slam the right trigger in the games I play and it would break. With the elite version, I set it up with the trigger lock and voilà, no more breaking triggers. It's been totally worth it in my use case.

I've had two of these since it dropped in 2019 (and series 1 before that). The first the RB stopped working and was out of warranty. The second is still going strong. Zero stick drift on either.
Absolutely worth the investment if you play on controller regularly. But be aware they are prone to bumper issues, there are guides online on how to fix - https://youtu.be/1EjJ5JjOtUo

I've had this version 6 years now with zero stick drift. Some other issues, but not that

It's a shame these are built like garbage. I loved the programmable buttons on the bottom, but it fell apart after about 6 months. Buttons stopped working, stick started drifting, rubber cover started peeling off, 🙄. I paid for it with Microsoft points and it was a waste.

Yeah. I have one and love it. It's hard to explain to people that ask why pay double. It's like asking why pay more for a luxury car. You don't have to, a Honda will get you from point A to point B if that's all you care about, so will public transport, presumably.
