But ... This is a tough show to watch. The first few seasons have scenes that will make you cringe (and will likely have your spouse tune out ... if not worse!).
Community Reviews
The Shield is a tense, gritty FX crime drama that stands out for its realistic seedy Los Angeles setting, escalating pressure, and a widely praised finale. Later seasons are described as especially strong, with tighter plotting and standout turns from Forest Whitaker and Walton Goggins. The main drawback is the digital SD presentation, which is called out as poor, with ghosting and a lack of HD making it hard to revisit after seeing better transfers elsewhere. A strong series, but the format limits the experience.
Common Questions (4)
This deal is SD only, despite the description showing HD in places. The series is being sold as digital SD, and several comments flag the picture quality as poor compared with HD versions seen on Hulu or Blu-ray.
Yes, if you want one of FX's best series: the last three seasons are praised for escalating tension and a standout finale, and the show is also described as a realistic portrayal of seedy Los Angeles. The main caveat is that the early seasons can be hard to watch and the SD presentation is a drawback.
Yes. The SD transfer is repeatedly described as very soft, with ghosting at normal viewing distance, and one comment says it is unwatchable for that reason. If you care about image quality, the Blu-ray or an HD version is the safer choice.
Yes. One comment says it does not show up in search and only a list of episodes appears, making the purchase flow unclear in the Apple TV app. That suggests availability may be awkward to access even when the title is listed in the deal.
