Just bought the 110 model and it's nice but there are lots of upsell options. Anything more than very basic text needs a monthly subscription to access.
I own 3 Niimbots (various models)

- This uses proprietary labels and is a pain to try and work around. Hence the really low price to get you in the door so they can profit of you on the labels. It's the printer and ink business model.
- These labels contains variations of PFAS/BPA/BPS. They transfer through contact and is absorbed through the skin. So you can transfer it from one container to another just by touching it. They're also commonly on thermal cash register receipts as well.
For the first point, you can buy a different brand that is more open and doesn't lock you in. Phomemo is the brand I bought (and returned once I realized it contains those chemicals). It doesn't lock you into their specific labels. The prints are about the same, and the apps are very similar to NIIMBOT. The cost is usually a tad more, but you make that back on pretty much the first roll of label you buy. I've not noticed any quality differences. For the second point, that's more of a personal health concern. Not everybody is, and that's okay. Some are not okay with it, and that's fine too. Just informing you, which is what I wish others did for me. If you don't know what those chemicals are, I highly recommend at least doing basic research on it and see if you're okay with that.

That said, using cheap generic labels is not always a good thing. A major advantage of using the company's labels is that the chip tells the printer the label type and size. That means you can print immediately. In contrast, most generic printers force you to calibrate the printer every time you insert a new roll of generic labels. That often involves wasting a few labels. In other words, if you switch label types a lot, this can be a real hassle and waste of money. The technology may have changed but that the case a few years ago.
There is custom firmware that let you use 3P labels and even use them with app.
Look up for niimblue, it have repo with all the different frimware, join their discord there are steps on how you can download and flash custom firmware.
