Do not buy this if you plan on saving money by purchasing off-brand labels. It can detect them and will not let you use them. It even tracks the original spool and won't let you roll the labels onto it to use.

wild! happen to have a suggestion of one that won't do that, that isn't a trash device? i feel like i've tried a few of these little label makers that have not held up well.

I keep buying Brother Label Makers, Yeah, the tape is a bit expensive, but my label makers have lasted not just years but closer to decades. Their basic laser printers are just about as bulletproof, I have been running the same one in an auto shop for more than 6 years, it looks like heck with greasy fingerprints all over it, but it just works.

Used to have one of these. Pairing the stupid bluetooth, launching the app, and buying the special label paper is so much friction. Not to mention digging it out of storage every time to use it, and occasionally it wouldn't be charged. Switched back to a fine permanent marker and hand writing on masking tape. 1000% faster and easier.

Such trivial devices have no place in my life - buying it basically just added extra hardships.

I have this, it works well. No brainer at $10

But keep in mind that the labels are fixed size. Unlike some label makers, you can't just make a 4-inch long label...the labels are pre-cut, so if you have 2-inch labels in the machine, that's what you're gonna get.

Also be aware that unlike a brother p-touch, these are direct thermal labels like receipt paper. They won't last forever. If they are somewhere you touch frequently (like a light switch you press daily) they might only last a year or less.
