Tablo 4th Gen is a simple over the air DVR that shines for easy local recording, a friendly interface, and two tuner recording for two shows at once. It works well with Roku and Google TV, can fast forward through recordings, and the app also pulls in free streaming channels. The main knocks are slow menus and channel changes, occasional app or network glitches, and heat related reliability concerns. Storage is tight at 128GB, so an external drive is often needed, and ATSC 3.0 uncertainty hangs over its long term future.
Cord-cutters wanting a simple in-home OTA DVR, because the interface is easy to use and recordings can be fast-forwarded with two tuners for two shows at once.
Viewers who want a no-subscription guide and recording setup, because the device can record free OTA channels and includes a 14-day guide.
Households that need a quick way to record local broadcasts on multiple TVs, because the app-based setup works across phone, tablet, and TV devices.
Plex users who want OTA recordings integrated into an existing media server, because Tablo recordings can work smoothly with Plex and commercial skip.
People who need dependable long-term hardware, because units can overheat, need reboots, and fail after about a year or two.
Shoppers with weak OTA reception or weak home Wi‑Fi, because poor signal and network quality can make playback and recordings unreliable.
Apple TV and HomePod households that rely on live TV, because the setup can freeze on the live screen and refuse to play.
Viewers who expect instant channel surfing, because boot times and channel changes can be slow.

4-tuner unit will 99% die in about 12 months. Install it upside down to let heat radiate out and it will work. I would install the 2-tuner unit upside down just in case.
100% free and zero fees. 14 day guide.
Any channel, including streaming, found here can be recorded:

Works offline. Above streaming channels will still work if you don't have an antenna.
Note: Tablo sells on walmart which you can get with an extended warranty.
How many units do you have working, and how many crashed and burned.
Since you turned them upside down, any don't work anymore?
I'm in florida to it gets hot as hell... well almost as hot as hell.
putting a small fan on unit might help.

Yeah, I'm on my 3rd also...they rarely last more than 1-2 years. I'm tempted to buy a cheap 2 tuner today as a backup for when my current refurbished 4 tuner dies on me. I've had my TIVO Roamio for 11 years and it's still going strong. Too bad Tablo didn't build these better to last.
QUESTION:
Will my quality of the picture be the same as my cable I get now.
What I mean is three out of the 4 local PBS stations look like they broadcast in 240p and only only looks like 1080p.
Any help woul be great.
I would like to record some of the Cooking Shows on PBS
Thanks

What you describe sounds typical of the way the channels broadcast. There is a primary stream that is high def and several sub-channels that are lower quality.

"If you rely on the built-in 128GB then they get transcoded and you lose quality. "
Looks like I need to know more about "transcoded", process, and options
Thanks
