xfinity sucks
Even if I could take advantage of this deal, I'd lose my cablecard I'm grandfathered into. If some agent there messes with my account and I lose the flag for that, I can never get it back apparently. I can't even switch to an internet package with unlimited data, I'm stuck on one with a 1.2TB cap still. I hope when the political winds change we get someone in the FCC again that will require them to support cablecards again.
In the meantime, I'm thinking about getting a secondary connection from a local fiber competitor just to avoid the cap since I do large backups and use streaming on my tv a lot more than I used to.

Verizon FiOS is offering $30/month, price lock for 3years with speeds at 300mbps/300mbps. I have the Xfinity $40/month already and will likely switch. I like that Xfinity gives out weekly rewards though. Not sure if Verizon does the same but you're also saving $120 a year by switching to Fios.

Take it if you already are with Xfinity. Call customer service first and get them to offer the deal before trying alternate person as you have to cancel and switch... it's a price lock for 5 years and you don't have to deal with them for that period. Be nice and you may get switched. You now get their cable modem + router free without the additional rent. Seems like new competitors are coming and 5 years may bring in better tech long term.

A few things to consider:

I had my own cable modem and router which paid off over the years and was rated 650Mbps. When I installed their free hw, noticed that Xfinity free wifi and mobile radios could not be switched off. Went back to my modem and could not connect. long story short, they obsoleted that model and would not let it back on even though it was working fine for 8+ years. had to go back to their hw but used my router in the hope of disabling their free wifi (did not want some crazy dude using my connection for an all-nighter). Those free wifi/mobile radios are hard wired to stay on even in bridge mode where the home wifi is disabled. Had to spend a lot of time with support before they agreed to disable it after 24 hours. it took one week!
You should be fine if this free neighborhood wifi does not bother you, or if you don't DIY.

ANyone know how to do this if you've already got xfinity and my last 2yr deal ran out? had 300 Mbps at $35 a month but just went up to $85 now

There's no at&t fiber at my place. So, I might try out Starlink. Just not too sure how reliable it will be during the winter with the rain storms and all in our area.

The city next to me has fiber providers but not here yet so can't use anything but Xfinity. I currently pay $124 for Gigabit X2 (2 Gbps) + $25 for xFi Complete for unlimited data.
I might try to call retention and just cancel, and sign up another member of the family.

i have no option cause they're the only provider in my building. Trying to rebuy route someone suggested earlier. Will update with how it goes

What is the real benefit of a legacy cable card on 2026? Dvr??? There are recording options and streaming options there that make this obsolete

I have found Astound is more reliable than Xfinity. Especially during power outages, Astound stays up, but Xfinity is down and does not come back up for a few hours after power is restored.

I was paying $150 a month for the 1.3Gb plan but switched over to AT&T fiber as soon as our block was offered a connection, when you think about I was getting about 39Mbps upstream that plan was a ripoff. $50 for 1Gb is pretty good but I would question what is the upstream speed?

Dunno if it's a permanent thing but so far the app shows that the modem does a daily speed test and records the result. It shows I get 1170Mbps (117% of your speed).

If that test is showing like 50% then you'll need to probably schedule a house call (or if it's time of day problems). If it shows like mine, then it's your desktop/in-house wiring/setup.

It says its about 100 for upload, so not great but..........

was using xfinity for more than 15 years. I recently changed to eezee fiber. Definitely xfinity sucks.
