xfinity sucks
Even if I could take advantage of this deal, I'd lose my cablecard I'm grandfathered into. If some agent there messes with my account and I lose the flag for that, I can never get it back apparently. I can't even switch to an internet package with unlimited data, I'm stuck on one with a 1.2TB cap still. I hope when the political winds change we get someone in the FCC again that will require them to support cablecards again.
In the meantime, I'm thinking about getting a secondary connection from a local fiber competitor just to avoid the cap since I do large backups and use streaming on my tv a lot more than I used to.

Verizon FiOS is offering $30/month, price lock for 3years with speeds at 300mbps/300mbps. I have the Xfinity $40/month already and will likely switch. I like that Xfinity gives out weekly rewards though. Not sure if Verizon does the same but you're also saving $120 a year by switching to Fios.

Take it if you already are with Xfinity. Call customer service first and get them to offer the deal before trying alternate person as you have to cancel and switch... it's a price lock for 5 years and you don't have to deal with them for that period. Be nice and you may get switched. You now get their cable modem + router free without the additional rent. Seems like new competitors are coming and 5 years may bring in better tech long term.

A few things to consider:

I had my own cable modem and router which paid off over the years and was rated 650Mbps. When I installed their free hw, noticed that Xfinity free wifi and mobile radios could not be switched off. Went back to my modem and could not connect. long story short, they obsoleted that model and would not let it back on even though it was working fine for 8+ years. had to go back to their hw but used my router in the hope of disabling their free wifi (did not want some crazy dude using my connection for an all-nighter). Those free wifi/mobile radios are hard wired to stay on even in bridge mode where the home wifi is disabled. Had to spend a lot of time with support before they agreed to disable it after 24 hours. it took one week!
You should be fine if this free neighborhood wifi does not bother you, or if you don't DIY.

More selection for less price. Usually steaming services bundled into cable TV package prices. No annoying instances of getting logged out of your account like is common with steaming after software updates. Ability to have multiple devices watching at a time (12) , at least on my account. Doesn't require Internet (well the guide does). Well developed UX/Ui with the right device (which is really an issue for all streaming devices except for Apple TV)

Cons
If you don't have a cable card now, you're not getting one. Your cable company won't give you one. Most providers have stopped providing service for them. 3rd party devices require you to have to troubleshoot issues.

It's really a partial list, but it more or less will come down to people's preferences.

I switched from Visible to Xfinity mobile and there was no noticeable change in service.

I like the extra speed of 1gig for $50, and 5 year lock is nice. For me the Xfinity mobile service is a big savings. I also switched to another Internet provider for a time and didn't realize how much I utilize the Xfinity hotspots.

I ported a line to the Xfinity free line. They use Verizon. It's fine if VZ is decent in your area. I had to contact CS chat to activate the line and port the number. Couldn't do it online. Took about 30 min. Can't beat free for a year. After that I shop around again.

Read the other Xfinity post from August. I activated a new modem under an existing account and cancelled the old modem/account. Retained my diamond status and my purchased movies -- top gun and id4 😂

Xfinity doesn't care about older members. They care about new members and this is not even a deal it was always like this. Even without this you can get their modem for 2 years 300mbps for the same price!
