Features:
- This professional DC 6-42V circuit tester is a must-have for automotive repair, home wiring, and industrial maintenance. It effortlessly locates circuit breakers, traces broken wires, detects current leaks, and tests continuity—all without damaging wire insulation. The perfect open & short finder for electricians, DIYers, and auto technicians to solve electrical faults in minutes.
- Equipped with a high-sensitivity transmitter and receiver, this circuit breaker finder tool delivers crystal-clear test results via bright LED lights and distinct beeping tones. A built-in low-battery indicator (flashing red light) prevents unexpected shutdowns mid-test. Its anti-interference design eliminates background noise, ensuring you get accurate readings every time with zero guesswork.
- Easily pinpoint open circuit breakpoints using the adjustable sensitivity feature (3 modes). Set the transmitter to the down position— a flashing green light confirms an open circuit. The receiver emits a full signal and rapid beep in normal areas; the signal weakens or vanishes exactly at the breakpoint for precise fault localization.

This wire tracer is aimed at finding automotive shorts and tracing circuits, especially when fuse by fuse troubleshooting gets tedious. It can help track intermittent or hard to isolate wiring problems, and it was useful for finding a short in an RV. The meter can also provide voltage and resistance readings, which helps narrow down faults like a stuck float or a draining light. The main limitation is that you still need to identify the right circuit by pulling fuses first, and some Amazon reviews appear to be for a different product.
Common Questions (4)
It can help trace a shorted or intermittently damaged wire, including a chewed wire or a minimal short that still drains power without blowing a fuse. It is less useful for a slow drain from a defective component like a radio, and you still have to isolate the correct circuit first.
Yes. You still need to identify the right circuit by pulling fuses, then insert the transmitter into that circuit; the tool is mainly for tracing wires when you do not have a wiring diagram.
Backprobe pins reportedly do not bite through insulation easily and may need to be forced to make contact. That makes direct clipping on insulated automotive wire unreliable unless you can expose or access the conductor.
Yes, it was reported as very useful for tracking down a short in an RV. The tool is suited to tracing the affected wire path when the fault is hard to isolate.

My analog gas gauge on the dashboard is almost always reading Full. Would this be a better choice than a multimeter to test if is is the instrument cluster or something going to the gas tank.
Thanks !

You can place the lesser used vehicle (or both) on a low mileage plan.
My jeep had a fluctuating bouncing speedometer.
I changed out speed sensor, but it didn't fix the issue.
Eventually, I pulled the cluster and replaced the small PCB board with one from the junk yard cluster.
Not hard...just some of the 1990s plastic clips were brittle and snapped off.
