Community Reviews

The Pathlite:ON 5 SUV is a Bosch mid drive step through e bike that stands out for strong build quality, hydraulic brakes, a Shimano 1x11 drivetrain, and Class 3 assistance up to 28 mph. Assembly is quick from the giant box, the 57 pound weight feels manageable, and the battery can be removed for external charging. Main caveats are the need to check local Class 3 rules, possible battery age on old stock, and missing extras like the shock pump and headlamp. It feels like a high spec commuter and trail bike with limited remaining stock.

Common Questions (5)

  • This revision is advertised with a 500Wh battery, though there is uncertainty about whether earlier versions used a 625Wh pack. The battery is removable and can be charged externally.

  • It is a Class 3 pedal-assist e-bike with no throttle and assistance up to 28 mph. That makes it subject to local Class 3 rules, so it is worth checking your area before buying.

  • Assembly takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and the bike arrives in a very large box. The setup is straightforward enough for a typical direct-to-consumer e-bike build.

  • Canyon's sizing guidance puts riders 4'10" to 5'2" in XS, 5'2" to 5'6" in S, 5'6" to 5'10" in M, and 5'10" to 6'1" in L. Canyon's positioning system can also be used to confirm fit.

  • The maximum total weight for the PATHLITE:ON SUV is 140 kg for rider, bike, and gear combined. The rear rack holds 25 kg, and using a Croozer trailer adds another 50 kg of carrying capacity.

Good question. Based on my research it seems you're better off sizing down with this brand.

Sizing is provided in this FAQ listed here:

https://d21buns5ku92am.cloudfront...a0bb1e.pdf

You can also input your information in the Canyon website to get info on size:

https://www.canyon.com/en-us/buyi...ng-system/
Also, here's an AI summary on sizing:

For a rider who is around 5 feet tall (specifically between 5'2" and 5'6"), the Small (S) frame size is best for the Canyon Pathlite 5 or PathliteEmbarrassmentN 5, while riders under 5'2" should choose an Extra Small (XS). Anyone know if this comes with the Bosch performance CX or Bosch Performance Speed? All the descriptions around the pathlite ON say CX, but the pictures show the speed.

For those of you who are more savvy about these e-bike deals: any other thoughts on why this is a good deal? I'm sure that the $3699 retail price is probably more of a suggestion (instead of its true average sale price), but wondering why the discount is so steep. Trying to get rid of old stock? End of season? Or is it really just a $1299 bike? Also, how many gears? (it's nice to see an e-bike that expects you to do some serious pedaling, instead of a token pedaling motion simply to activate the motor) I'm assuming this model has enough gears to operate it without using the electric motor? Lastly: any numbers on range? I didn't see any "up to 40 miles" specs.
10 speed, but respectable brand name parts group. Great motor in the bosch drive unit. Adjustable from a fit standpoint. Decent frame, wheels, other components etc. Could easily retail for $37 and that's on par with other big brands. At $13 it seems like a steal if it's the sort of bike you're looking for.

I have this bike and got it last month for about this price; it's a ton of fun and the build quality is very high. Canyon only operates direct to consumer (other than a tiny bit of Amazon) so ordering direct really is the primary option. Shipping is fast and good and the packaging is (obviously) gigantic. Assembly took about 30 minutes. At 57 pounds this bike is not too heavy, esp compared to other ebikes, but the thing is for a Bosch mid-drive with high end specs, you are not going to find any other deal like this - it really is a $2500+ bike for sure. Make sure you are okay where you live with a Class 3 bike (or 2E depending on how you look at it) since there are rules for Class 3 bikes that can be more restrictive. I'd buy it again for sure.
Just to be clear this is not class 3, but class 2 with a max speed of 20mph and not 28mph, right? Or am i mistaken. Tempting either way. Thanks!

Range is very dependent on how much and how hard you pedal, complicated by the topography and wind.

This is a very good price for this quality of bike, however I'd be a little worried about battery health on old stock after sitting around in some warehouse for who knows how long.
Looks like they downgraded the battery from 625wh to 500wh at some point and this is advertised with the newer 500wh pack. So maybe not that old? But also smaller capacity. Or maybe just smaller usable capacity? No idea what cell brand/capacity is in either pack.

Anyone here with first hand information on this bike or ordering direct from Canyon? I'm seriously thinking about ordering a pair.
I ordered a Canyon Grizl about 2 years ago. Have about 6k miles on it. Some assembly required but pretty easy to follow. Regular maintenance is required. Some specialty parts if you need replacements you'd need to order from their site. All and all good experience. I have a friend who own an e-bike rental company. He only uses Aventon.
