Decent specs for what you get and the price you pay all things considered.

Is that the CPU that overheats and gets permanently damaged. Bios update saves the CPU but lowers performance.

It's not 14700K which means it doesn't have overheat problem.

Intel listed all 14700, 14700K, 14700KF, 14700F. But anyways wrong thread for this discussion. Best of luck.

Yes I would avoid the 14700 CPU, especially on a refurb.

There are two issues:

1. Doing a bios update is technically supposed to stop future damage, but it does not reverse previous damage. On a refurb you have no idea how damage the CPU already has.

2. Intel hasn't been the most forthcoming on damage to pre-bios updated CPUs nor possible damage even if you do update the bios.

So the 14700 might be worthwhile on a new system, although I would try to avoid it, but on a refurb you're really rolling the dice because it might have been used quite extensively before the BIOS was updated.

Performance isn't reduced, unless you really care about synthetic benchmarks.

Most refurbs already have the BIOS in place, so there's a possibility these were held back to apply the BIOS. Disclosing refurbishment is required if a third party performed it.

What are people's thoughts on beating this price by black Friday? I have 32 GB of spare DDR5 ram which makes something like this appealing to me since I would just swap the ram out anyway making the 16 GB spec not a big deal.

We're very unlikely to see significant markdowns this year.

You might get a few random components slightly below their overinflated prices, but whole systems are still going to have something lacking unless you aim for closer to $2000.

Take this one, for instance. In a normal market, this would come with 32GB of RAM and a 2TB drive.

In fact, I scored an i9, 32GB, 4070 Super, 2TB NVME at the end of 2024 for $1399.

WoW will run on anything these days, including a high end smartphone using Winlator: https://youtu.be/dQEykgauXtc

I bought it, 20 minutes later I get an email from BoA saying it was rejected bc they thought it was fraud lmao so never did actually get it. There was the msi at Walmart for the same price, trying to figure out which is better.
